I'm trying to trouble shoot a Kenmore Elite washing machine, HE4T, for my friend. It fills, sometimes it agitates, but it's giving error messages, and the error messages are different from time to time. Some of them say F4 to F16 (electrical error) sometimes it won't do the spin, sometimes it give F02 (drain problem). The way she deals with this is to cancel the load and start, the load over. WHen she does this sometimes the washer will complete the load, sometimes it won't and she'll have to cancel the load and re-start it. Any ideas?

Reading the owners manual, or to be more accurate, browsing through the owners manual I didn't see anything about cleaning the lint filter in the drain line. But once I removed the lower panel I saw the thing, and I unscrewed the lint filter and man alive there was a slug of decayed black crap in there big enough to choke a horse. I pulled it out and flung it over the back yard fence. Stunk to high heaven. I bet that lint filter had never been cleaned. Washer seems to work just fine now!

Must remove the whole front

That's why I don't understand why all manufacturers do not have a small door for the filter. LG Samsung and GE have this panel. Whirlpool products do not. On your Kenmore, there was still a lower panel. The newer ones have a solid front panel which must be removed. I believe you could also take the back off.

Maybe the Whirlpool products do not need the filter cleaned as often as the other brands.

that 'lint filter' is actually a pump protector....and apparently doing its job!

first thing to try always.....unplug, wait a bit, and plug back in....a lot of times that will reset a lot of errors.....

note: sometimes you have to leave unplugged for a few days......always recommended to leave unplugged when not in use anyway....

check youtube for meaning of error codes and possible solutions....this has helped a lot in the past....

Thanks people! Checking YT is a great idea. Shoulda tried that, but I'm glad I'm here. I'll stick around now that I reg'd.
