Kenmore Refrigerator - On/Off control

I have a Kenmore 19.0 cu.ft. refrigerator (top freezer) about 20 years old. Lately the refrigerator keeps turning off. I reset the ON/OFF from Control knob inside the refrigerator. It turns on for several hours and then again does not turn back ON. Can any one help me to diagnose the problem and how to fix it? I would appreciate any help.

Sounds like the cold control needs to be replaced.

Thanks. I noticed that when I just tap on the cold control box/knob, refrigerator turns on. Do you think there is loose connection or I need to replace the control?

I would replace the control. Loose connection is unlikely.

Is the Cold Control same as Thermostat? Is it eady to replace. I know I have to take off the knob first and then take the two screws off the control box to get to the control. What do I need to do after that? I would appreciate any advice.
