Hello
So my Kenmore series 500 top loader fills with cold water (when selected) even during the last spin.
It does not overfill and shuts off but cold water enters the machine during all cycles. Does not happen when hot is selected. After the last spin the tub is full of water.
I tried fooling the machine by reversing the hot and cold hoses but no go. Cold water won't even enter the machine, no matter what temp is selected. The Sears site says it may b the elec. cicuit not the fill valve that is bad. They do not seem to offer help in that area.
Right now we have to turn the cold water faucet off after the last rinse to prevent the tub from filling during the last spin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is an electronic problem is it worth fixing and can it be done by a somewhat handy person?
The neighborhood handy man identified the problem at first and said it is not worth fixing. The machine appears fairly new and is in generaly good condition.
Thanks folks!
Ps where would this elec circuit be and is it replaceable?

#'s

The only numbers I could find on the machine are:
W10025656
Amirim-s
The machine does fill with cold water when it is unplugged. Does this mean the valve is faulty?
Thanks!

It sounds to me like a faulty fill valve. There was a Whirlpool TL washer I recently worked on had this same problem. A new set of fill valves fixed the problem. They were not expensive either and very easy to replace.

if your getting water added during/after the final spin, chances are its the water level/load sensing control....some of these have an electronic board attached to the back of them, and that, of all things, is proven to be faulty with these machines....maybe not faulty, but just odd for it to cause the problems that it does....

oddest thing I ever seen, or even remotely connected to, but solved the issue on several machines....

but your also saying that it continues to add water even if unplugged, that could be the valve itself....but note, the water would never shut off, unless you turn the spigot off, in which case it would flood the floor.....

let us know how you make out......
