Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Darren, these are a 1st generation of the center dial LKs. These had a separate switch for 2nd rinse and on/off of automatic advance from presoak/prewash to wash. The next version consolidated those two switches to one switch al-encompassing option in 1978 or 1979.

There was a model that had variable water level too at some point. I also vaguely remember there might have been a dryer version that had a knob for selecting wrinkle guard on or off. A feature I wish my 1986 LK dryer had as a differentiator between the 90 and 80 series.

These are 1976-7 machines, if you post the serial #s we can tell exactly.

Yes the clicking sound while agitating is normal on the first generation Dual-Action agitators, these washers even had a sticker in the lid that told the user that this was normal operation and not to be concerned.

Thank you ! The washer is practically a time capsule. Yes, this was I think a one off model. Not around too long. I think by 1975 Sears already had a replacement model with the controls moved down onto the panel minus the 2nd rinse knob. According to the Sears catalog, the upper balcony model shows up in the fall/winter of 1974. Love the wash action of the Penta Swirl. in my opinion, this agitator did not deserve the maligning it got.. It is quite an effective agitator even on full loads.
