Kenmore washer/dryer stack combo

I believe this is a Whirlpool made unit. Reminds me of the portable WP machines that are very reliable. It was owned by an elderly woman and seems to be in excellent condition. Just wanted to confirm that these are reliable decent machines. It would be for my grandmother to use occasionally in her apartment. I appreciate your thoughts.

Yes, that's a White Consolidated Industries item. To me, it looks like the WCI morphed from Frigidaire Skinny Minny after WCI bought Frigidaire. Indexing tub with poor rollover and dryer has a potential for being a fire hazzard.

WCI 24" Stacks

Not only did they occasionally catch fire and it could spread fast with the plastic dryer door, on the washer there were cases where the washer motor would overheat and set the plastic motor cover on fire and then the plastic outer tub plastic washer top and lid.

 

On top of all that they are mediocre performers at best.

 

 We have one of the last ones in the museum 1993, by this time the washer lid and dryer door were steel and the dryer heater assembly was redesigned to reduce fire risk and spread.
