Hi, I have just acquired a Kenmore Wringer Washer, which I am super excited about. Its a nice upgrade from a washboard! Its rather old but still works, however I am having trouble draining it, and figuring out all the buttons. I cant find a model number anywhere to obtain a manual. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome, Tyler!

It looks like yours is the model with pull up/ push down controls to the left and right of the timer. If you can't get the pump to operate, you can gravity drain it by lowering the hose near a floor drain.

There should be a narrow handle on the bottom right side of the wringer to reset it, but I can't see it.

Let us know what you can and can't do so we can help you more. Can you get at the underside to work the pump pulley? You have a rare edition. The push/pulls were in production for only a few years. The side handles for agitate and drain/filter were more reliable.

You have a Visimatic, a really good machine.

Glad to be here!!

I have no idea what a pump pulley is, nor did I know that it had a timer? Some of the switches and buttons arent there. The one is on/off, the other says "choke"and the other one doesnt say anything. It did eventually drain because of good ol' reliable gravity. As for the wringer, it has a lever to swing it different directions, a lever to switch the direction of the rollers and in order to close them tighter you have to push down on the top and side to close it. I hope that helps you help me! And thank you for welcoming me!!

Tell us the model number,

which should be along the wringer column where it meets the back of the machine. The number will begin with 110. Guessing that it's a 58 or earlier. The first two numbers after the decimal point indicate the year.

Your timer control is missing. It would be right in the middle with words and numbers around the circumference.

You have the classic Roto-swirl agitator with the scrubber cap, and you're fortunate that it works. Good for you.

Interesting machine. As far as I know, we haven't seen this incarnation of the Visimatic, complete with "CHOKE." Funny and unusual. Tell us more.

Up in smoke!!

I couldn't find the serial number anywhere. Where the timer should be located I did find the words and numbers. When I plugged it in today it started smoking, which it has never done before, any idea why? I really wish I could tell you more but I don't know much about it, I'm starting to wonder if its a lost cause.

"Smoking"

Doesn't sound so good. Something might be seizing up. Was the motor humming or did it sound stuck? Before today, could you wash and wring? Someone with more skill will have to advise you. I just messaged a friend for help.

Yes I have been able to wash and wring, it sounded completely normal when it started smoking. I just plugged it in, turned it on and smoke starting coming out of the holes above the choke button, so I turned it off, unplugged it and it continued to smoke so I had to put it outside. Thank you for emailing your friend, I am escited to hear what he has to say.

Thanks, Bill. Please reveal your source. Do the early 60's models have chokes?

John Combo, what's up with this choke button? Are you familiar with it?

Tyler, where is the off/ on switch. I am only familiar with the off/on switch as part of the timer. I was thinking that your motor was engaging when you plugged the machine in. That's why I said you were lucky, concluding that when the dial was broken off, the contact points were stuck in the on--or in Visimatic talk-- the "HOLD" position. But now it sounds as if you have a switch separate from the timer. This machine gets more interesting each day.

Parts diagrams...

at Searspartsdirect.com

Diagrams are not real clear but left lever appears to operate agitation and right lever looks to be for the pump. Looks to be cable operated.

Found model #s by looking for a common part. I have a parts diagram for a 110.6302500
Looked at Appliancepartspros.com and found a part and it will show all models that list it and then cheked the diagrams for those models.

Thanks, Bill

I'm still stuck on the choke, fascinating.

Tyler, John said I could give you his cell # and he'd be happy to help you, if you're interested.

Addendum

Once hiding in neighbor Dolores Moran's basement, when the coast was clear, I kept pressing the shiny steel levers, but they didn't respond. You had to pull them up, about three inches for operation. This is when I fell in love with Visimatics, and waited 40 years to get one. Smiling, thinking of all the washer boys out there lurking in secret, and hope they find Automatic Washer.

choke cable

sounds like someone bought a universal fit"choke"cable and rigged that to engage
the pump or something-on my 1959 KM visimatic, the pump(seized on mine right now)
the pump is driven off the motor by moving the pumps drive roller into contact
with a rubber wheel on the motor shaft-that could smoke if the pump is seized.
Other possible source of smoke is stuck centrifugal switch in motor causing the
motor's start winding to smoke-motor will be damaged if this happens to often...

That's amazing that you figured it out. You can see that odd little knob sticking up which should not be there. It should be a thin chrome ledge. You've got your Ph D in Mechanics, while I'm a high school drop-out
