Hello.

Over the Christmas holidays, I was speaking to my great-grandparents who mentioned that they had an old Kenwood mixer in their loft, and they wanted to know if I wanted it. I said yes, of course, so I am now the proud owner of a Kenwood Chef A701A, which dates from approximately 1968. I believe this model is quite common as there are plenty and plenty of spares and attachments on eBay. My mum says she remembers using it as a child. My great-grandfather told me that he had won it through his work in 1968, and that it had not been used for at least 20 years. He had said that the last time he used it, it was making some bad noises, and when he gave it to me yesterday, he mentioned something about something needing oiling. It has the balloon whisk, 'K' beater & the ceramic bowl. The cover for the hole to attach attachments is missing, as I expect that an attachment was used and the cover not put back. It also comes with a leaflet - not a manual however, though it appears to be straightforward to use, but I have not yet tried it. I cleaned it up today as bad snow has shut my school. It now looks a bit better, as being stored for years meant it had become a littly grubby.

Anyway, I come here for advice on repairing - any will be great!

Sorry for boring you!

Jacob

Scraping noise

Can sometimes be as simple as adjusting the length of the screw thread on top of the beaters, first thing you need to see about is if its seized at all from sitting still plug it in and try it is the only way forward :)

Thank you, will plug it in during the week at some time to test it. I hope it does work, as I am starting a collection of vintage appliances, and I will ask my other nan about her 1970's Moulinex hand Whisk.

They do sound horrible at the lower speeds but the speed control mechanism is very crude by todays standards. Having said that, they are an extremely solid machine that has a large cult following.

FIDO

My great grandfather had it serviced multiple times and once the repairman said they were built like tanks, plus they are quite heavy but great for someone who likes baking, ie me.

Excellent Mixer!

I have a soft spot for Kenwoods - I like them better than KitchenAids.

The ginormous Kenwood Major, with its seven-quart capacity, is my favorite.

Caution - if you're buying accessories or parts, be sure you're getting the correct thing for your model; there were some fiddly changes over the years that mean one beater, etc., does not necessarily fit a given mixer.

nice

great mixer mate , I have the same model (couldn't kill it with a shovel) I remember when things were made to a standard not a price hmm ..... I must be getting old .
