After a 500 mile round trip to Plymouth yesterday I've finally got the Keymatic home. I've taken today to clean it up and have a look round to see what it needs. After cleaning most of the rust marks off it doesn't look too bad. It will need the mains cable replacing before testing, some of the hoses have gone quite 'crisp' and the door boot has the usual hole in it. Other than this it seems to be ok, although its last wash may have ended on the second rinse as the program indicator is stopped in this place. I'm wondering if its first owner may have been involved with the Hoover dealership as it has come with an information manual for demonstrators and the Hoover dealer news for June 1961 detailing the Keymatic launch.
Looks like I've go plenty to do!

Hi great machine

I've got one too and am slowly bringing it back to life. One little thing mine needed was the starter switch gear in the motor was stuck it made a loud buzzing noise and I recognised it straight away and switched it off. Lowering the motor and a but of oil and a few movements with a screw driver and it realised it. I'm sure you might know these things but I'd hate you to burn out a motor ! Mine won't spin and has a leak!

I'd love to see those brochures !

Good luck
Richard

Thanks for that Richard, must admit I've not plugged in yet as the cable looks terrible and it was stored under an outside porch when I went to collect it I thought it might be a good idea to leave it inside in the warm for a bit to dry any possible damp out. Everything seems to move as it should by hand but of course under power anything could be happening :-) Looking forward to getting it up and running again. I'll see if I can get some decent shots of the brochures when I've got a few minutes and post them if I can.

wonderful Ian

so glad you've got it, and that it looks so good for it's polishing up especially the chrome and hoover badge.

Look forward to hearing how the powering up goes.

You'll be having a fun and hopefully not too frustrating saturday.

I'll ask then lol, how is the door boot and the internal pipe work, Crisp?

Well done

Mathew

Congratulations Ian, it's come up a treat, it looks great next to your Miele.,I was very fortunate to watch another get up and running again a while ago with the help of Matt , Mike and a few others. Beautiful made and designed machine if slightly over designed in some areas. Hope you get it doing it's maiden wash soon. Rich

Hoover Keymatic 3224 - The First!

Congratulations Ian, that was a drive and a half but if we all added up the miles we`ve travelled - well!! And aint you the poker player, kept that quiet ha ha..

I`m sure you will have it working as soon as, great machine,as you saw for yourself @ Johns a couple of weeks ago (see below), was good to meet up and there is LOTS of expertise on these (and service literature) when we all get stumped!! Is the door boot Turquoise or white?
