Jim,

I dont know about your local wal-mart, but ours never has this on stock, only the crappy bissells, you may be better off ordering online esp since it is only 97 cents to ship to the store.

Hoover platinum

I think the hoover platinum carpet cleaner is really the best cleaner you can buy currently.

The steam vacs are good. But the platinum has many more cleaning features.

Andrew Leeling has one. And according to some pictures I saw, it did a VERY VERY impressive job at cleaning the carpets.

My parents have a friend who has his own Stanley steamer truck. He worked for them and they laid him off, but it was his van, so he got to keep all the stuff. It may be a bit old, but oh my it works like a dream!

its the steam. Nothing cleans like it.

shampooed my carpet once with a electrolux shampooer. resoiled quickly and after a couple of months looked gummy with residue; tried to rinse the carpet with my bissell steam cleaner and the machine choked on the suds it sucked up. ended up having to call sears to professionally steam cleam with a truck mounted system to get rid of the suds. the solution mixture was precise and i didnt saturate the carpet with suds. the electrolux sales lady got very defensive and said that i must have done something wrong. hello, its not rocket science. her reaction was immediante and well memorized leading me that other customers have had simalar results. the machine was a $800 mistake and now lives boxed up in my basement.

try this, if you hate residue but want superior cleanability use 1 cup of rubbing alcohol per tank of very hot water. my carpet is white and 12 years old and look like the day they were installed.

We have a Hoover Steam model, not the Silver but very similar.
It's the best one we've ever used. The carpets literally dry in two hours. It has the individual rotating brushes(Spin Scrub) which I think help a lot with the cleaning.
It also does very well on kitchen floors!

electrolux

Doesn't the electrolux cleaners have a tank on them for residue? Or am I thinking of something else...

My grandpa has a mint in box 1970s sears floor scrubber. Oh my gosh its so beautiful.

Like Hans plates, they have that old thin * (star) like decorations in gold and blue on the tank and machine. Its a baby blue metallic color. With controls on the handle. A white tank sits on the handle front.

He uses it to shampoo the attic carpet. It does incredible results. The carpet is almost 30 years old, and the library in the attic has never looked nicer. The carpet looks brand new.

He uses the hoover concept one to vacuum up.

I have an Electrolux shampooer, had three brushes & I use Lux shampoo too, then rince with the Hoover. I'm very pleased with the results, clean the whole house for friends, they prefer my cleaning to truck types.
