It's a great video nearly an hour long by Alliance for SQ repair people. I don't know how to work on washers but I found it fascinating.

So wait- the entire outer tub needs to be replaced for a seal leak?

Overall I like what I see. Several steps up from the 432s in terms of service and longevity. Speed Queen has seriously thought this out with much effort behind it. Only gripe would be the drain pump- looks like an off the shelf version that is used in pretty much all washers just with the specs tweaked for the application at hand. They tend to be noisy- but time will tell.

Excellent video. The machine has a reduced parts count. I didn't hear any mention of mode selectors or clutch mechanisms which should make it even more reliable then past models. The motor provides feedback to the control board and the control board uses software to make decisions. Oh and there is an "oh crap" switch for worse case out of balance condition.

It really is all about the software. Or as they say today "the app."

Tub Leaning...

Did anyone else perk up when the teach spoke about tub leaning during agitation? Usually caused by a broken or fractured snubbed ring. Resulting from damage during shipping or delivery. Interesting...

Training session for The New SQ TL Washers

We went through this more than a month ago, it is always amazing how many mistakes they make and how much wrong information is given out during these meetings.

You can also see how many techs are simply lost and not understanding the misinformation they are being presented with.

Overall as I have said before this new machine will be much more reliable and long lived that the current style machine, the only LITTLE problem is the washing performance and the ability to wash really big loads clean is going to be inferior to the current machines, this is no dough why the TL washers with transmissions are still going to be used in commercial models and for TL machines sold in other countries.

Unfortunately SQ will likely lose a lot of the market share they have achieved with this new design TL washer.

Wrong information

Thank you for pointing this up John. I personally caught a few errors, (like 10amp breakers in US residential) but was afraid of pointing it out. Its not going to boost my reputation calling out an expert as wrong. But none the less still an epic vid.

"this is no dough why the TL washers with transmissions are still going to be used in commercial models and for TL machines sold in other countries"

I did not know this. Honestly, and to be blunt, that makes me want to cry. :( Its so said what these regulations are doing.

Export models for Australia still with transmissions

I contacted our Speed Queen distributor here in Australia and this is the response I received:

In answer to your question, we have not planned to change any of our current models in the foreseeable future. Our understanding is that the direct drive models being released 2018 are only for the European and US markets.

So, as John has stated, machines for certain export markets and the commercial market will obviously still have transmissions.

I also contacted the Technical Service division of Alliance but never received a response.

Cheers

Leon

One could assume you could then just order a commercial coinop machine if you so chose? I just bought a new SQ last year so I am good there but still curious.

I just want to thank Speed Queen for the time we had to show the 2018 models, however there may have been some timing issues on when the product is to be appropriately presented to the public. I really appreciated your input, comments and discussion on the newly redesigned Speed Queens.
