Vintage St. Charles Metal Cabinets
Have a huge following, with persons willing to pay in order for the things to be shipped across the country, provided they are in good nick.
St. Charles company was purchased by Viking, but nothing like those metal cabinets is produced anymore (following a trend sadly).
Many homes and apartments built during the 1950's and so still have their original StC cabinets in kitchens, laundry areas and so forth in excellent condition. Of course much depends upon how well maintained they were by the owners.
Main problem today is finding cabinets to match one's current colour scheme, though there are a few businesses out there that offer "repainting" services for StC cabinets.
OTHO many, many cabinets of this nature end up along with vintage appliances, chucked to the curb during a remodel. Often recyclers and such spy and rescue the poor dears, however more than enough end up at the crusher.
FWIU metal cabinets were the height of sanitary and rodent proof materials for ages when it came to such things. Suppose as homes are better built to keep varmits out, such things mattered less over wood.
