Kitchen Aid KDP-20 How to remove lower washer arms???

Hi everyone,

I hope you can help as I'm stymied. I've got a Patrician dishwasher in good condition but it recently started leaving food bits on the dishware after it's run. I read that the holes in the washer arms can get plugged but can't figure out how to get them off. I tried turning them counterclockwise but that didn't seem to do anything. The center of the "cover" doesn't have a screw to remove and I don't really see anything else to try.

I am a complete newbie at this so if someone has other ideas about the source of the problem I'd love to learn.

It should just lift off. Pull straight up.

The wash arm should just lift straight up and out.There is no screw that holds them on there it's just the weight of it..

The wash arm comes out and then clean the metal filter under it and check the main intake area...

I also use Dishwasher magic which is citric acid which will clean the grease that you can't get.

I think what Diane is trying to do is....

remove the actual chrome arms from the central hub. I wish I had the answer--I also want to remove each arm from mine and give them all thorough internal clean outs...but they seem to be permanently attached--maybe with an ultra strong industrial adhesive?? If anyone DOES know how these come off, I would also like to know.

Here is a new one for your 20 Series Machine

Here is a brand new one for your 20 series machine.  If you think your wash arm is the problem a new one for $25 can't be beat.  The other part won't fit your machine but I bet you could turn around and sell that for $25 and get your wash arm for free.

 

It may also be a problem with your wash arm support (more likely this than your wash arm).  If you search for eBay auction 191280486137 there is one for $40. 

 

Also, follow this link to an explanation from SteveT (Post 618392)).  This could be your issue: http://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREAD.cgi?42020.  He explains (with photos) how the wash arm support could be blocking the water pressure to your spray arm and reducing wash efficiency.  The wash arm support in this picture isn't exactly the same as yours but that top part will work the same way and they do come loose.  Mine did and Steve helped me get mine going again.
