So I finally got to the point where my 3 year old dishwasher drawers (1500 bucks worth of em) made me so mad I swapped them out for this dishwasher I found for free on craigslist. I had to spend $33 dollars for stainless steel panels to allow my wife to let the machine in.

So first let me start off with the dumb questions:

1. How do I put on the kick plate? I can't seem to figure it out?
2. Where do I fasten it to the kitchen cabinet?

So this is my first KA, and its not too noisy, funny the motor sound reminds me so much of the whirlpool power clean we had growing up, just something about the sound....

The first cycle I tried was pots and pans, with some dirty pots and they cleaned up perfectly! I'm a little puzzled by some of the things it does during the cycle which I can't really explain and I got a little worried when the dry light went on and the tub was full of water but after a few minutes the timer advanced, it drained then the fan went on.

What a cool machine, hope you all can tell me more about it!

Steven

Ooo Thats a nice machine

Looks like you have Granite countertops, these weren't designed to mount to granite at the top as far as I am familiar with them.

You'll need to jerry-rig a "side mounting kit" from some other machine to attach to the sides of the machine to the cabinets or find someone with a stone drill and there is a way to attach to granite but I'm not sure on that. I think you drill two holes, and fill them with something that hardens so you can screw into it.

Maybe Stevenet will know, hey Steve???

On mine the kick plate is a two step affair you mount the lower inner black piece and then the trim pice mounts to that and the frame. Do you have a picture of your kick plate for this machine?

There is wood under the granite

I built my cabinets myself, there is 3/4 inch plywood above the dishwasher to screw into there is just nothing I can see on the dishwasher I can use to bolt the machine to the wood under the granite.

This machine spent its life in a beach front custom home here in La Jolla so it might just be a CA machine.

The kick plate

This is the kickplate, any help on installing it properly would be greatly appreciated. I don't have the screws so I'll have to get the right ones at Home Depot.

It secures to the countertop via two L-shaped brackets that mount at the top edge of the tub.

Monterey model is same as the standard Superba but with more of a gray/neutral color scheme on the panel.

The panels go on in the orientation you have them laid out, lift them up toward the machine.

I believe the smaller black toekick panel needs to go on first.

The lower panel then fits up with the nipped corner edges slipped under the bracket at the arrows.

So the question of the day

Is it really a whirlpool, it doesn't say hobart on it anywhere and the motor sounds like a whirlpool if that makes any sense.

Front Lower Panels on KA

Are a Bitch to put on. I need to do some service on three of my machines, but I just dread taking those lower front panels off.

There is a knack to getting them on right. I'm to the point where I think I'm going to figure out some other way to attach them. Some people think they are a breeze, but none of mine just snap into place. Ughhhh.

I can't think of a worse way to waste an hour or two.

no luck on the panel

I'm with you top loader, can't get it work, I put a chair in front of the machine so the kids don't get under there!

They are beyond tricky

stevet will be one of the people here that can guide us through this proceedure.

I LOVE KitchenAids but those Lower Panels... are one of the strangest desings I've ever seen. It seems like once they're put on in the factory , that's it. And then get into the Lower Panels on the Regency Models with Chrome trim... Get ready for a few cocktails. LOL

Up until last weekend, I would have agreed that the lower panels are a PITA to put on and have them stay on. I always fought with my KDI-21 because the top of the panel would pop out and sag on one side.

My opinion changed when the ISE Classic Supreme project got underway. Nate showed me how the panels attach, and it really is a breeze. Tilt the top end in and hang it on the lip as in the shot with the white arrows above. The straight tabs on the bottom of the panel rest on top the frame edge on each side, just in front of the springs. The L-shaped tabs screw into holes in the frame. I had to bend the tabs to line up with the screw holes, but once I had those tabs secured to the frame, that panel wasn't going anywhere. It was a quick and easy operation.

Love the Monterey. Fake burl wood makes an otherwise timeless Superba look very dated.

I got it!

Once you figure it out its easy! I really gave mine a good cleaning on the inside as there was lots of grease and just crap built up under the door and where the door meets the tub. I noticed that the dishwasher wasn't draining after I did that. I had to do the cancel drain a few times before it worked. If the machine detects low pump flow does it turn itself off? Maybe I have a timer problem or the machine and I are just getting used to eachother?

I still have to figure out how to mount it to the cabinet...Thank you all for the wonderful information!

Steven

These instructions aren't for the Superba, but for the next model down. A lot of the information is the same, so you may find some answers about the filter and draining in the link below.

And yes, KA machines are notorious for the accumulation of crud at the bottom of the door, so it's a good idea to clean down there once in a while.

Enjoy your Monterey. It's better than anything you would buy new today, or three years ago. The 21 series is essentially still a Hobart machine even though Whirlpool took over during that run. Even the 22 series machines still look like Hobarts inside the tub. Not until the 23 series did things look different in the sump area.
