out with the old!

After removal, I was suprised to see that it is 2 sepearte units...and that with the lip on the new countertop, I had to run to HD for 2x4x1/2 plywood sheets to raise the countertop to clear the drawers

It sure looks like gold fleck, and I can tell you it certainly is NOT available these days (hope you hung onto it Jerry!). We settled for boomerang formica for the new kitchen but frankly, that style's getting to be a little played-out. On the edging, it's available, but buco-bucks. -Cory

this is why...

the counter had to be replaced...in the 70's, the original owners installed this counter and double-bowl sink...and even though there are at least 50 houses just like mine in the neighborhood, the chances of finding the 'original' counter is next to nothing...

Beauty and the Beholder

I grew up with the gold speckled countertops. My parents still have them. After all of these years, they look great! The link below will take you to a site with a little more info on the countertops and the steel edging that is available. About the only thing that isn't available anymore are the curved edging pieces.

Retro Renovation is a great site.
