As a hobby I've started restoring some of the old Sunbeam Mixmasters. I find them
really well made.

Made in Chicago

Sturdy as can be. One of Chicago's finest industries during it's day...
I have a lot of Sunbeam in the house. Honestly, I don't think any of it ever failed.
Oops I'm wrong. My beloved Coffeemaster bit the dust about a month ago. Postmortem forensic evaluation revealed that I got water in the bottom when I filled it the night before. One Martini too many... sigh...
Like Mother like Son... My Mom damaged her Coffeemaster by immersing it sometime in the early 1960s. Well, SHE got HER'S FIXED at the nearby Sunbeam Factory on Roosevelt Road.
Sunbeam factory is a shopping mall now and so I retired my unit with honors.

Our resident mixer expert and Sunbeam fan Kelly (aka mixfinder) will be able to tell you everything you ever wanted to know about your mixer and Sunbeams of later vintage.

You did a beautiful job on that one!  Just like the one my mom had when I was a kid.  She was an avid baker and it finally burned out on her around 1970.

Oh My God Its You!!

I have seen your amazing work on different sites and admired all you are able to do.  As you know finding original beaters and Fireking or Glasbake bowls gets harder and harder.  I have three bins of pieces is parts and if you ever need anything let me know.  I have a chrome 10 that gets used every day and all day long when I am catering. I have back up parts when and if a part fails so I anticipate using it until my parts are too far gone to be fixed.  I currently have around 30 mixers and about 30 odd appliances of Sunbeam derivation.  If I see a good one I can't walk past.  It is an amazing honor to have you sharing your work with us.  Its a wonderful network of funny, caring and generous members and I am honored and proud to one of the few and brave that belong.  Welcome and come on in the Chowder's fine!

I don't understand it--in my area haven't seen ONE Mixmaster machine here.Mainly KA and Hamilton Beach. My Mom,Grandmom,Stepmom all had Sunbeam mixers-and the great goodies they fixed up with them.I just want a few for my collection and to use.Still looking. They don't ship well unless disassembled and properly packed-esp the base and bowels.the pictures shown here-the machines are so cool!!Esp the fire engine Red one!!All of the ones I knew of from childhood were white.

Ask and You Shall Receive

I have too many.  Let me know what vintage you want and I'll happily send one your way.

The red paint job looks great.

As for bowls I still see quite a few of them around at the thrift stores, Sunbeams and HB's as well as the odd Westinghouse bowls. I'm so crowded in with things now I'm scared to buy them anymore.

We did this model 5B in it's original color. I took the base to a NAPA paint store where they matched colors perfectly.

Please Mixfinder

Sorry I peaked but could I PLEASE have the yellow one I love yellow. If you would like you can have the mixmaster jr that I got the other day. Thank You Carl

Go Beat Off

All Pictured mixers have been spoken for.  I have decided to give a hoarded chrome 12 to a special friend.  There's a Kitchenaid K-4B ready to go to Ralph and a 4C to Ron.  I have a Seafoam green Westinghouse Food Crafter with bowls but no beaters, a Dormeyer model 3000 and a K-4B in Copper left for adoption.  The local shipper charges me $10.00 to pack them and then shipping runs from $30.00 to 50.00 dollars depending on how far and how much an item weighs.

Those are absolutely freakin' B E A U T I F U L machines......I may have to get Mom's repainted in pink, of all colors, I just got a chrome one the other day.....and bowls, too many to count or display

keep up the great work!

God, this red model is a beauty!

How did you transfer the numberings, the printing to it?

Apart from that: I am just guessing those glass bowls are mounted rotatatably. True? Likewise, I think there is no geared power transfer to them. Right or wrong? So, does this mean all those Sunbeamers pull their dishes forward just by the pure power of pulling in all the ingredients right in front of their own beater inserts? Or is there some gearcase to it? I have always wondered....
How do those machines rotate their pots?

The outside beater is curved to match the bowl in order to scrape it clean as it mixes, and there is a rubber nub on the bottom of this one beater which makes the bowl rotate, the platform rides free on a ball bearing socket.....there is no mechanical connection.....these mixers also can come free from their base to use as a hand unit, but they have some weight to them...

Bowl Rotation

Starting with the model 9 Sunbeam there is a plastic button on the bottom of the bowl-fit beater which turns the bowl.

This button can be added to the beater on the models 5 and 7.

For the Man Who Has Everything

Nice Collection Martin.  I had no idea you were a Sunbeam afficianado.  Please do me a favor and unwrap the cords from around the mixer head.  Its almost always leaves marks on the mixer head that are near impossible to remove.  The cords can also become stiff and crack at the bends.  Even more when ready to crank them on you have to first untie it.  The only thing I have ever seen worse is wrapping them around the upright of the stand.

I will do that with the cords....its something I learned from my Mother, thats how she always wanted it wrapped, thats hers in the Pink, a gift from my Dad, which if I am correct she got in 1951, and should be a Model 12, I have to check my facts on this again.....they are the greatest machines....I have a few others....and a lot more bowls, seems everytime I hit a thrift store I find and buy one.....I may bug you later, I have one thats missing a beater.....

Another set-up I like alot is the Oster Kitchen Center, I have 2, and almost every attachment, and spare pieces, also gave another to my sister, with a spare set of bowls, for someone who does a lot of baking, she loves it to death!
