I see a lot of Kitchenaid series 23 DW for sale around and I'm wondering which part would fit on my 22. I know the racks are about the same. What about the check valve (rp2813: I haven't found the GE part number yet), heater, fill valve, and wash arm? Also what other NLA parts should I look for to maintain my kuda22 for years?

Thanks

here's a quick list

You can probably interchange just about everything on those machines except for the pumps, washarms, and the timers and controls. The 23 has the whirlpool power clean module pump and the 22 has the Hobart designed pump. Leave it to whirlpool to redesign the bottom of the tank to accept the smaller diameter wp pump. I guess it was cheaper to make a new dye to stamp out a different bottom than use the wp pump with a larger diameter motor mounting plate. Surely it all came down to dollars and cents.

If you want to keep the 22 running forever or close to it, then start looking for 22 series machines and if it's a 23 you want to keep going, the same advice applies.

You could always interchange the timers, program swithces and harnesses, basically swapping out the complete doors and harnesses as long as if you wire up the windings of the motor on the 22 correctly. Comparing the wiring diagrams will help you wire it right.

Ok I've found the GE part# (WD1X1486) but it's the flapper only. I need the complete KA check valve assembly. I'm wondering if I can fit another check valve there.

You need the whole fitting/housing that the flap fits inside of?  Yeah, that wouldn't be a GE part.  It's a Whirlpool part and probably NLA.  The check valves began with the 21 series, and you can go back only that far if looking for a donor machine.

But since it's a passive part, don't you think there are other dishwashers that use that kind of external check valve on the drain that I could fit on mine?

Check Valve stand-in??

Why all this talk of the OEM part? Why not just use a 3/8 or 1/2" brass check valve in its place and make sure the hose will connect to the nipple on each end of it?It will probably work pretty darn close to the original?

Or how about adapting the GE check valve assembly that uses that flapper at the link below?
Surely someon like John Combo52 could vouch for its possible substitution.
