I received a Kitchenaid A-9 Coffee grinder today from an ebay auction. I didn't pay that much for it and didn't have high hopes. It's in pretty rough shape and need a lot of TLC. It didn't work out of the box which I was not surprised at. It is now in about 30 pieces on my workbench. Complete electrical diagnostics will begin later tonight or tomorrow.

Does anyone have service literature on this appliance? This is an ORIGINAL A-9, not the reproduction. Upon disassembly one problem that I immediately noticed was that one of the commuter springs had broken. That's not a hard fix since i found the parts of the spring as well as the carbon brush inside the housing. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to get the bottom grinding blade off so that I can reinsert the armature and put things back together. Help is appreciated!!!

Great Coffee Grinders

I have 2 of them, they are really nice grinders. When I was 15 I worked at the A&P till I was almost 19,I would luv to have one of those old grinders that sat at the end of our checkouts.I think they were Hobarts. Our store opened in 1939 and it was supposedly one of the first with refrigerated air-conditioning and self service meats. We had to go up on the roof at least once a month and put mold killer in those old water cooled condensers. They were wooden towers.I will say it might be 105 outside but it was 69to72 inside of the store. The compressors were in a cement pit in the back driven by one huge motor placed between them, the pulley must have had at least six belts on it.The huge pipes would be covered in frost. Those were good days. That store still exists as a small bagel and coffee place.
