Kitchenaid dishwasher KDS-58, water inlet valve replacement issues

I am replacing the water inlet valve on my Kitchenaid dishwasher, KDS-58. I have installed the replacement water inlet valve that Whirlpool now makes for this machine. With the new water inlet valve properly in place the black and white wires that go to the water inlet valve do not extend far enough to plug into the new valve. I need to find out the quickest and easiest way to solve this problem. And yes, this is the correct replacement water inlet valve for this dishwasher. It just seems to be apparent to me so far that Whirlpool supplies a replacement water inlet valve for the KDS-58 that is also universal to other WP models as well. Everything fits perfectly but the connector is not at the exact location as the original part.

In the first picture I circled in black the 2 leads the are now to short to reach the connection to the new valve.

Hi Pete, you simply have to lengthen the wires and crimp on some new terminals.

Hey John, thank you for your reply. I do want to ask, what type of white and black wires should I ask for when I go to Home Depot or Lowe’s? They have all types of wires in spools to cut for you however they couldn’t figure out what I needed nor did they have any idea what I was describing.

Another concern I have is with the white wire. There are two white wires that come together and is attached to one terminal. Im assuming I need to get two white wire extensions, attach them then to both white wires then bring them together into one terminal. Unless there is a better way you know of.

In addition to what I just mentioned, according to the installation instructions for the inlet valve. There is to be one white wire and one black wire attached. When it comes to the white wire should I only put an extension on one of the white wires? If so, should it be to the white wire that meets the side of the terminal or should it be the white wire that goes directly into the terminal?

You only need a few inches of wire use an old lamp, cord or something, cut those two white connectors off use a little twist on wire nut. Probably a little orange ones about the right size and get two crimp on terminals either at Home Depot the auto parts store or the hardware store or something this is a pretty simple thing.

I did everything you suggested and the dishwasher works perfectly! Thanks you again for your help and for all the advice you give on this site. Where shall I send your service fee to? Lol! SERIOUSLY!

There were no leaks coming from the new water inlet valve. However, I did notice some drips from the bottom left corner of the door towards the end of the wash but not during the first 3/4 of it. It might be related to the detergent.

I DID NOT use pods in the test wash after the repair. I only used Bubble Bandit Glass Magic in the pre wash dispenser and Premier Detergent in the main wash. During the wash I did check for suds level. It was minimum with these powders that I used although there were some light amounts of bubble that could have caused the leak. Going forward I’m just going to cut back and see it that solves the problem. I’m assuming if the leak was related to the door seal or tub seal that the leak(s) would have happened immediately from the start of the wash.
