A good friend of mine has a Kitchenaid KUDS01FLSS1 dishwasher with a heating element that doesn’t heat. It was installed about 2003 and has been well cared for and used lightly by him and his wife. Aside from the inoperative heating element it washes fine. Is there an easy way to remove the element to check continuity, or is there another common problem like a relay that would cause this? He would like to repair this dishwasher if it’s not too difficult and expensive.

Non Heating KUDS01 DW

No there is no way to fix this DW. LOl.

Of course you can check the heating elements continuity, you can check the complete heaters circuit from the control panel, you can also either pull the complete DW or pull the complete pump and motor assembly to check or replace the heater. KA-WP did have a lot of element failures with this vintage DW, so there is a good chance that it is just the element.

Hmmm . . .

The way I look at it, if a new machine is installed the old one has to be pulled out anyway so might as well do it and check the heater. If it's bad then it seems to be a fairly easy and inexpensive fix at that point. If it has continuity and thus appears to not be the problem then it's new machine time.

Thanks again for the advice John!
