kitchenaid dishwasher problem

have posted about the portable kitchenaid i have here, its a single wash arm machine from the early 70s..when i got it i turned it over and saw where it had begun to leak a tiny bit so i took off the pump and motor to reseal it. then i run it once and it was fine a little loud but it ran ok. at the time i thought it was odd to be so loud (the motor i mean) but when it was full of water it sounded normal. then the next time i ran it it stopped mid cycle for no reason. i let it sit for 20 min and it was fine for the rest of the cycle. the next time i ran it during the wash it started to make a really strange noise that got louder then the motor quit and would not restart. so i thought the motor was fried. i had greg send me a diffrent motor. i took the machine apart and took the orig motor into the garage and plugged it in and it runs fine, then i got to thinking when you take the pump apart there are 4 or 5 metal washers and one rubber oring in there and the first time i took the machine apart they fell out. i thought i had gotten them in the right place but now i dont think i did. does anyone have a page that shows the proper order that these washers go?? be happy to pay for a copy of the pages from a repair master book or pay to borrow a copy. thanks

Those little washers are just shims. They go in between the drain impeller, and the wash impeller....denoted in this drawing as "wash impeller shims". If they are not in there, the wash impeller will scrape against the housing, which is probably the noise you are hearing. If you're getting leaks, Make sure you put the rubber O-ring washer on the drain impeller. It is the first one to go on before the metal washers. If this washer is left out, not only will you have the improper clearance, but water will leak down the shaft.

With the wash impeller scraping against the housing, the motor was probably not turning at enough RPM's to dis-engage the startup winding. This, in turn probably overheated the motor, and the thermal protector cut out

SORRY IM BAD NO PICS..BUT SINCE THE MACHINE HAS A CANCER PROBLEM ON THE BOTTOM FRONT AND GREG AND I BOTH NEED EXTRA PARTS IM GONNA TEAR IT DOWN THIS WEEKEND..SEEMS SAD BUT THIS WAY IT WILL LET 2 OTHER MACHINES LIVE..
