Hi everyone! I have a set of racks from a KD23 machine that are in very good condition(only a couple of very minor wear marks). The racks can be used on any machine from 18 to 23, but for the 18-22 machines you'll need to change the rollers for the top rack.

These are free to whoever wants them, you'll just have to pay for packing and shipping. If anyone is interested, send me your ZIP Code and I'll give you a rough estimate of what it will cost to send.

I’ll take you up on that offer...

I’m picking up a Hobart-built KDS-21 on Sunday, and one of the issues that it has is rusty racks. I’ll send you an email here directly.
Thanks,
Thatwasherguy.

How to keep your racks from rusting

When the machine drains after the main wash, it will fill with about a quart of water which it circulates
to flush the filter. I kept my racks from rusting by standing by it with a 4 quart pitcher of hot water which I poured in as soon as the fill stopped. It was enough water to create a first rinse and the pump out period was sufficient to get rid of the extra water. Then the main rinse was enough to provide a second rinse and it did a better job of rinsing the remaining detergent so that it did not attack the coating on the racks.

Enjoy your KDS21.[this post was last edited: 5/16/2025-21:44]

Email sent!

Tom,
Thanks for the tip on adding water to the purge cycle. I’ll definitely do that. Kentucky has notoriously hard water, so that should help to dilute the soap as well. Unfortunately, hard water also often means spots on the dishes. Good thing it has a rinse-aid dispenser!
Thanks,
Thatwasherguy.

KitchenAid dishwasher racks

On the porcelain tub KitchenAid dishwashers, they never had the nylon racks they were always vinyl coated.

With hard water, you’re much less likely to have rusting racks because the detergent attacking it because the detergent is not as effective in hard water. Rusted racks are much more of a problem with soft water.
