Do any of you know if the heater/drying element was on during the wash and rinse cycle? This heater became square with the 4 Way. I swear I saw a KDI 16 front load one time with the same square heater in the bottom!
My aunt had this machine in her summer home, which was in the same Long Island city I lived in all year round. When we would visit for dinner or dessert, I would be right next to my aunt when she was loading this up! While everyone else was having dessert I would be standing at the machines side while it worked! I loved to see the first pre-wash water drain out, as it was always a very interesting color depending on what was served!
Rob, the heater only came on to maintain the wash water, and was then used during the drying phase. The vent assembly was designed to direct the incoming air towards the heater so that it would pick up the radiant heat coming off the element & circulate it.
As with all KitchenAid's this is a great machine, with cool styling!
Time frame is correct. Here is the cycle sequence from the service manual. As you can see, the heater did operate during certain portions of the cycle.
