KitchenAid EQ Dishwasher

Having been in the appliance business for over 35 years, I have seen and owned a lot of different dishwashers starting with my first, A KitchenAid KDS16 series.
Since that time I have had more KitchenAids , GE, and even a Waste King. About 6 years ago I bought a (WP) KitchenAid KUDP02. You may have read my prior rant on this machine. No doubt the poorest preforming machine of all. The so called "hard food waste disposer , Yeah, right" kept clogging up. We put nothing
in that the other machines couldn't handle. This resulted in very little water to
the top rack so you could imagine what the glassware looked like. A recent kitchen renovation gave me the opportunity (and excuse) to get rid of this. I sure had a sour taste in my mouth for KitchenAid. Then I did some research and discovered the EQ line. No hard food waste disposer. But lots of $$. I decided to shell out and bought the pro model. Now I have never been a Whirlpool fan but what a machine! Quiet I have never heard before. It is so silent. The washing is fantastic, everything comes out clean. The little filter just turns out, rinse it under water, and that it. I am really happy with this. It's kind of
back to the future in that my first KDS16 had a filter we took out and rinsed off as well. A good model to consider if you are replacing.

I have the Kenmore Elite version of this dishwasher, and it is a fantastic cleaner. Mine is about 3 yrs old...this wash system was given to Kenmore first. it is so silent and does a great job. I don't rinse anything, just scrape and go. I do think the nozzles in the back are placed too low to be effective, but they do rotate to compensate for that. I also like the top rack only option..very useful.

I've had mine what a month now discussed on another thread..I'm happy with it's washing ability but wondering could you tell me if yours does all the same short fills and short drains during the first 10 minutes of operation. Can't figure out the whys or what's of all that. It's not that noticeable when you're in the kitchen that it's doing it because it's quiet but when I'm in the basement here on my pc I can hear it quite easily. I pretty much use the 1 hour wash cycle all the time

I believe the 1 hr wash cycle does not pause to heat the water like the normal and heavier cycles do. To compensate for that the optical water sensor will fill and purge as needed to keep the water clean and hot, since that cycle is quite a bit shorter than heavier cycles (normal, pots & pans) etc.

Sorta sounds like KA's binge and purge system of getting rid of heavy crap in the wash water. As it was explained years ago (and might have changed, so forgive me, please), most dishwashers use an optical sensor to determine turbidity of the first wash water. Even a certain amount of milk will trip it and make the machine drain. KA, on the other hand, uses pump pressure to determine if a mini purge is needed. If and when the purge is needed, it just ejects a bit of water and heavy soil and refills to replace what was ejected so you can avoid a whole water change. I don't know how far that heavy soil in a little bit of water travels in the drain line. The difference in methods is like a male dog marking with a few spurts and a female dog just squatting and letting it all go at once.

These are fine looking machines. I've been pleased with our4 yr old GE Profile and love the detergent dispenser. However, recently junk has started to accumulate in the ports of the washarms. I can't figure out what is going on or how to clean them out. We were drawn to the dispenser, disposal function, and quietness, but lately I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

I've been really skeptical of getting a dw without a disposer. I absolutely will not rinse before loading. That why I have a dishwasher!! I noticed the manual says even without rinsing the filter only needs to be cleaned quarterly. Impressive. So, is the EQ wash/filter system more robust than their traditional disposal system with the four arm spray -- even without rinsing??

I never rinse and only scrape. The filtering system works great, far better than my old model with a disposer. I would never go back to that style again.
