Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

~#4 no water what so ever is left down in the sump, it’s completely dry.

Aren't ya supposed to keep your gasket wet?

Thanks for explaining it Robert, it makes sense! With a basement I guess that would make it much easier to do. Can't wait to do lots of baking dishes it that beauty!!

Wow

Robert, I wondered how you would "trim" around your window, and Trim you DID. What a Nice job, it looks like it came from the factory, just as you have it.

Toggles you are suppose to keep the carbon face motor shaft seal wet anytime the motor is running. Since the hot water fill valve is switched on immediately once the dishwasher is started this wets the seal and keeps it wet anytime that the motor shaft is turning. The cork seals stay damp even with the sump dry for weeks so that is a non issue.

Cool video Robert!! I did not realize that you had lit the interior also. That is a really fun dishwasher!

I just have to chime in here!

Incredible transformation.. I think I will send the video link to the service training dept at Hobart because they dont teach the old UM's anymore and when I took the classes back in the 80's we had the UM and WM's with the plexiglas doors so we could observe the wash action of the machines. Even had them on the AM series too like the one of the show machine on Youtube.

For those who dont know, the UM was the precursor to the KD10 thru 14's and the WM-1,2 and 3 were based on the 15/16 sereies.
The WM 5 was based on the 18 series but used the tanks made in Europe not here. Pumps were 18 series on both sides of the pond and in Australia as well.

The door with the window does have that 50-ish factory look to it.An excellent remodel job.

I cant wait to see some of your future creations!

that is a beaut! Just watched the video on Youtube in amazement..cant wait for Rich to get home to check it out too!

OUTSTANDING!!

the first thing my hubby told me tonight, is" Guess what Robert did now?" Ran to the office and he showed me the video. OMG! Robert, you never cease to amaze me and your creativity!! I agree with everyone else too, THIS is how a dishwasher SHOULD be!!!
will you give a Step- by- Step instruction on how to do this?? you know the gang here would love that!!!( like you did with your Lady K)

Chris wants to do the same thing to a Belt Driven Maytag Dishwasher as soon as we can find one. He also found a counter top"Danby" with window. Plans are already to " pimp it out as we speak (thinking of adding a top spray arm!) He will keep you posted.

keep up the awesome work Robert!

Thanks Rich and Chris for your kind words. It really wasn't that difficult to do, that hardest part was making the frame look half way decent. I used my jigsaw to cut out two square holes, one in the outer door and one in the inner door. Then I had a piece of glass cut, made a cork seal and used stainless steel washers/bolts and screws to hold it tight against the outside of the inner door. I found that with the cork there was a slight leak, so I took out the cork and used sensor safe non-toxic silicone to seal the glass to the inner door better. Now it will be leak free forever, this silicone has never failed me yet, I use it for all permanent sealing jobs (pictured below), I highly recommend this type and once it cures its good to 600 degrees F.

Robert

You did a beautiful job restoring this dishwasher. And with a picture window with an interior light, whoop-de-do!! How are you able to run the machine with the interior lights on? You can be sure this machine will increase in value. Hope you will send a picture to Hobart/KitchenAid. Maybe they will get an idea and install windows on their new machines.

John the lights shines in from the outside through a second window in the side of the tank (see picture below).

My sister says that it looks just like her pink cell phone! And ya know what--it does!
Uh huh, you'll be pink any minute now mister! So there you are, I was wondering when you'd show up.

PinkMaster Dishwasher...!!!

Wow, leave you with a power tool and look what happens!!! is nothing safe....Looking FAB Robert, awsome powerwash system, all you need to do is have a little computer monitor with "Super PinkMaster DishWash" programme running!!!

Can you do a pre-rinse until its full to keep your SeeThru clear??? all that protein shake and cottage cheese blocking your viewing....LOl

Enjoy, Mike

Paint

Robert, how did you paint the dishwasher--brush, roller, spray? I want to sand all the scratches off of my Sears freezer and repaint it, but I don't think I'm going to paint it white. I was thinking of turquoise or maybe pink like your dishwasher.
