I've never saw this style machine with the "Big Blue" Wash Arm. I've always seen the Hydro Sweep. I wonder if the pump system is the same as the KD2-P ?

BIG BLUE CAST-IRON WASH ARM

Yes all home style KA DWs used a cast-iron wash arm well into 1963 at which time they were all changed to the well known four way Hydro-sweep arm and an all new motor and pump design.

Wow, clean KA, and certainly a model that doesn't show up everyday. The KD2-P seems to be much more common than this single year KD4-P. The styling was carried over to the KD5-P, with the revised 15 series motor/pump assembly and Hydro-Sweep wash arm.

Worth picking up!

The nice thing about this model was that it had a detergent dispenser so it was able to have a prerinse before the wash so it gave much better washing results. In fact, I think the timer was like the 15 series with two rinses (or a prewash and a rinse) before the wash and two after.

I remember this machine fondly. My aunt had this machine in her summer home where we lived. I remember watching her load it & then just standing there listening to it wash. I was mesmerized!! Tom is correct, the cycle sequence is PW, R, W, R, R, Dry. It also has a cycle selector for Full Cycle or Rinse & Hold. Very powerful machine; I think it actually holds more dishes than the KD-14 built-in series.

Alan, While this is a different tank than my KD2P, the KD2P holds a lot more than the KDS14. It is much taller inside and the removable sections of the upper rack add greatly to the loading flexibility. We used the last KA top-load portable in my mom's retirement apt. and it did not have the height inside of the KD2P.
