Hi All,

I have another thread going asking about a vintage GE dishwasher. I wanted to start a separate thread to get your opinions on this model. I’ve got the chance to pick it up for around $50 or less. It would be replacing a MOL GE from 2015.

I’m basically looking for better cleaning and shorter wash times. Noise isn’t an issue for me.

Should I be waiting for a different/more desirable model to pop up for sale?

That looks like a KDI-20

I believe it will heat the water on the first wash and last rinse.

Great cleaner. And yes, in under an hour for Normal Wash Cycle.

Check in the sump (lift off the wash arm and strainer then look where the heating element goes through the tank. If there are any signs of rust... well then it is a crap shoot how long it will last before it starts to leak around the element.

On the noisy side with the classic "Snap" of the drain valve when it drains. Uses a good amount of water so yes, your dishes will be very clean.

KDI-20 KA DW

Hi Scott, this could make a good fast DW' To make it faster and perform better you can by pass the silly sump water heating in the beginning and end of the cycle by jumping the delay thermostat. I also connect it so both 700 watt heaters run through the wash cycles rather than just one heater.

 

In order to do this you must have a 20 amp breaker going to your DW [ very common ] and your homes water heater should be set above 120F close to 130 F is plenty hot enough.

KDI 20C

I used to own a KDC-20C series dishwasher. This was the last of the KitchenAids that did 2 rinses after the main wash. At the beginning of any full wash cycle the dishwasher would heat the first fill to 150 degrees Fahrenheit by using the water heating element in the bottom the tank. Once when the temperature is reached, the water will start to circulate and the dishwasher will raise 1 and 1/2 degresss her minute in the 1st prewash and in the main wash. The final rinse would not heat the water like the 19 series did.

Would you choose this KDI-20 over a KDS-21? Guessing I’d lose the extra rinses with the 21, how about constant rinse? Does the KDI-20 have this feature?
