Kitchenaid KDP20 noise

Hello,
I have a KDP20 that was here when we bought the house 10 years ago.
We love it and have had all the rollers replaced and service by a local shop.
Now the new problem.
When it first starts to drain there is a noise like eeeeiiii eeeeiiii best way I can describe it. then as it gets close to empty it disappears and the routine pump empting sound is there.
I called the local guy who said it may be the motor and he would come out.
Then it stopped for about two weeks (so canceled appointment) but now it has reappeared. It only happens when it first starts to drain and does not occur each time.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

It sounds like the fan above the motor is loose. 

It is connected to the motor shaft. 

Perhaps it just needs to be tightened.

You may try touching base with "Stevet" and asking him for some advice. He has quite a lot of knowledge regarding Kitchen Aids and may be able to guide you on what needs to be checked.

Strange Noise From A KD-20 Series DW.

There are several possibles causes for a sound like this, the DW may have some foreign object in the drain pump area that makes noise when draining, or it may have a squealing main shaft seal [ most likely ] or a loose cooling fan on top the main motor [ possible, but a loose fan usually makes noise on and off when ever the motor is running ].

 

What To Do,  nothing unless the problem is really loud and irritating, For problem #2 the squealing seal, try leaving a lot more oil on your dishes and see if the problem goes away, [ you can also add a few tablespoons of BonAmi cleanser to the detergent, this will sometimes hone the main seal and eliminate the noise ]

 

For problem #1 take apart the pump and look for foreign objects [ if you do this have the drain impeller and main seal replaced at the same time ]

 

For problem #3 a loose fan you have to completely dissemble the pump and either replace the motor or in some cases we have been able to epoxy the fan back on the motor shaft The best thing to do with the old Hobart motors is to replace them with the much better Emerson motors.

So there is a motor replacement if needed? Do you have a model number for the Emerson?
