Sadly, I am listing my KitchenAid KDS-16 for sale. It was washing dishes perfectly until about two weeks ago. The cycle runs fine, but water never enters the dishwasher. Parts are too difficult to locate and I've just given up on it. I don't want it to go to a landfill, however. I'm sure that some industrious person could make it work again. I know that there is a parts supplier in Ohio that has some of these vintage parts yet. That place is:
Modern Parts House
7719 Brookpark Road
Cleveland, OHIO 44129
216-661-6966 (Larry)

The KDS-16 is in a fine shade of Mustard Yellow and is from July 1969
We have only run it maybe two times a week for the past 20 years, so it's seen light use.

Asking $150 or best offer.
Shipping is not included.

Boy will you be sorry...

As just about everyone on this forum will tell you when you replace that unit.
Unless the timer is actually bad, I would not get rid of it.

Have you considered that the fill valve may not be working or is clogged up? If I don't have a dozen fill valves I don't have one that would fit your machine. And I am sure that there are other members who would have spare valves as well.

Are you sure that you don't want to give it one more shot?

Let me or the other members know!

I would definitely look at the fill valve issue before giving this machine up. Fill valves are not really that specific to most dishwashers other than in how they mount. Off the top of my head I can't remember if the KD-16 used a timed or metered fill but there are ways of working around the timed fill issue if you get a valve that lets in more water than it should.

There is also a chance that the problem could be in the timer but I think that is relatively unlikely. Timer contacts rarely burn on the low current items such as the water valve.

If you don't want to tackle this, I may be interested in taking it off your hands and could pick it up tonight or tomorrow.

Non Filling KDS-16

Bad fill valve

Bad or clogged over-fill pressure switch

or machine is actually trying to fill but something is caught in the drain valve holding it open so the water is going directly down as fast as it comes into the DW, [ very common problem for any KA DW KD-15-20.

While this problem may be able to be fixed without too much trouble, I cannot fault you if you want to give up on this great DW, at over 40 years of age it WILL NOT LAST FOREVER and unless you want a constant project I would just get a new KA DW, With the food disposer.
