A sweet little old lady brought me her KA mixer in for repair. My main focus here is major appliances, but how can one turn down a sweet little old lady? (besides that I need the $$$-lol) Well, this mixer is older(Hobart built)but on the low speed setting it keeps going slower then faster -it sounds like reAr reAR reAr-constantly speeding and slowing alternatly. Can anyone on this board give me some advice or direct me to a book or website that would help me diagnose this problem? Even a wiring diagram would help! The model # is K5SS

That happened to our Kitchen Aid mixer. I think they called it a "worm gear" at the place I took it for repair. It was $60 to get it fixed. That was 7 years ago, and it's still running.

Thank you Laundress!

Everyone got so excited about the silly porn thing! Thank You for bringing this back to topic!

Look, I'm no saint or anything. Its just annoying to be searching for something serious and end up at bootylicious.com (it was something like that anyway)

Rickr- I have no idea what an avatar even is

Interesting site (repair site, not the porn!) and the free help offer is good. I was talking with a friend of mine who works at Williams Sonoma part-time and he was telling me about the new KitchenAid Accolade mixer. Supposedly, it's a WS exclusive model, all metal gears and 400 watts. He said the noise it makes is much different and louder than the previous models. My mother has never owned a stand mixer so I'm doing some shopping around. I can't imagine she will ever need 400W of mixing power though...

I have a Kenwood mixer under the "Viking" name-very nice machine-more power than the KA and it has ALL SS blades-no bare "burnished" aluminum blades that are difficult to clean and cannot be put into the dishwasher.-don't like KA's "trend" of the uncoated beaters-pain in the ---to clean-you should be able to put them in the dishwasher. The Viking machine I have has a 1000W motor-guess Kenwood is in a horsepower race.Kenwood mixers here are also marketed under "DeLonghi" name and Hamilton Beach Commercial.
