Kitchenaid model KDI-17A won't dry dishes very well (only noticed last few months), otherwise is a gem and matches existing kitchen. How do I troubleshoot? Thnks.

Take off the lower front panel and look at the blower. Does it go when the machine is in the dry cycle? If not check for voltage and continuity. Check the heating coil for voltage and continuity. There is a thermodisc on the blower that could be bad also. Again check voltage and continuity.

Some simple (minded) questions-

Jet Dry or other rinse agent in the dispenser?

Water temperature same as it ever was?

Cooler water temperatures can mean drying difficulties.

If so, then crack it open and check it.

Good luck!

During DRY, do you hear the blower come on? If so, after 10 minutes of dry, open the door, pull out the bottom rack and, with great caution, hold your hand over the round stainless cap where the hot air for the drying enters. Feel for heat. Don't burn yourself. If the fan works, but the cap is not hot, you either have a bad heating element or a blown thermal protector. If the cap is slightly warm, you could have a rusted out dryer heater and most of the heat and air is not being directed into the tank. You are the one who knows if the dishes are cool at the end of dry and can use that to zoom in on the troublesome part.
