Push Buttons became difficult to push in. Now it won't start when cycle is selected. I know it has power, because rinse hold light goes on when rinse hold cycle is selected, but door is not closed.

Any ideas??

More Detail

Issue with button for cycle are not related to door position. Previously, when I selected a different cycle, it would be easy to bush the button in and the previously selected button would go back out easily. Now, it can be a struggle to switch cycles, appears that previous selected cycle button wants to stick in pushed in position.

One of two issues

The problem could be the switch mechanism has worn out. If that’s the case it will need to be replafed. They are not repairable (unless you are experienced in that type of intricate repair work).

The other problem could be the switch reset lever inside the control panel. When the door handle is raised a cam attached to the handle mechanism moves a lever on the switch which resets it and pops out the cycle push button. If that is not working the switch will act as you describe.

Either way the control panel must be removed to examine the parts. It’s not too difficult a repair if you're good with tools. You can download a service manual from this site if you want to give it a try. Both parts should still be available via on-line sites and EBay.

Good luck and let us know if you need additional guidance.

Additional Guidance

Removed Switch assembly, there didn't appear to be anything wrong with the switch reset lever. Is there any way to determine if the switch assembly is the problem?
Nothing obvious from what I can tell.

If the reset cam is functioning correctly then the switch is the problem and must be replaced.  It is not repairable.  Your can still get this part via most appliance parts dealers or on eBay.  You will need the part number from the back of the switch

Repair Complete

Thanks for input bigalsf. Received new switch and installed last night. Works great. Next project will be fixing rust spots on the door.
