Can anyone tell me what the vintage (year) of this 24" wall oven by KitchenAid might be?
I'm thinking it might make a good replacement for my "out-of-order" Roper.
It also would give me added features like BOTH ovens self-cleaning, meat probe, and rotisserie.
Thanks!

I Don't Know....

....The year of this unit, but it looks '80s.

The thing that concerns me is the electronic readout. If you're giving this oven serious consideration, it might be well to find out how electronics-dependent it is; old electronic components can fail suddenly and be difficult to replace.

I am NOT saying this is somehow a bad choice; I'm just thinking that a little self-education might be a good thing before committing.

If you want a 24-inch electric wall oven with minimal electronic components, GE made the JR19 24-inch model in the early '70s. However, it was a single oven, not a double. It was a P*7 self-cleaning model, though. As with most 24-inch models in this time frame, it was intended for the replacement market.

Close-up of electronic timer

Yes - the reason my Roper is out of business is due to the failure of the electronic control.
It has the same kind of setup - turn knob to enter time and that hasn't worked well for YEARS before the control finally died.
It LOOKS like the only issue would be cleaning if the control died on this KitchenAid.
Since I don't care to clean ovens, that would be a deal-breaker!
Strangely, the control setup and features of this KitchenAid oven are VERY similar to the 1967 Hotpoint that was in this house when it was purchased.
The only thing that oven didn't have was self-cleaning which is why I replaced it with the Roper in 1988.

Fix Your Board

I did check with them months ago and yes - they can fix my board.
The problem is, I have NO idea how to get it out in order to send it to them nor does anyone on AW.
I'd have to pay a repairman $80+ just to remove the board for me and probably to put it back plus the cost of having the board repaired.
It's an "okay" oven but I never really liked the "turn knob" to set time and temperature and I always HATED the fact that the oven vent is right under the single knob control for the lower oven which causes it to deteriorate - especially during self-cleaning. I've replaced the control knob twice due to this "design error".

KA Double Wall Oven

These were pretty good ovens, they were a Chambers design that WP continued improving and selling under the KA name. It would probably date from somewhere between 1988  and 1998.

The only thing electronic on the KA oven is the clock and yes if it failed you would not be able to do Timed Bake or SC, however if this happened you could easily bypass the clock so you could clean the oven just by setting it to clean and turning it off 2 or 3 hours later. The GE oven Sandy mentioned while a great oven in its day relies on a circuit board for both baking and cleaning and it is NLA, also GE did not make 24" double wall ovens when they were making really good ovens, they did not start selling double 24" models till they bought Ropers factories and as you know Roper designed-built ovens were not the greatest.
