I have a Model KDS-56 Serial# M49770 Spec 17057. First. I've seen some Hobart charts and KDS-56 doesn't seem to be an option, but that is what it says inside the door. Is it the same as another model for parts purposes?
This is a portable dishwasher that has been bullet proof for the 30+ years I've had it (came used with the house) until today. I noticed a leak. I pulled the back off and ran it. It seems be leaking above the motor. Maybe the pump seal to the inner cabinet? The motor was spraying it around. Is this seal still available? Does anyone have a part number? If the seal isn't available, has anyone made a gasket on their own?
I would really like to repair this dishwasher. I'm attached to it, plus I'm laid off. (More time than money)
Thanks

I actually have a motor seal

It is also available from Hobart. It runs about 30 dollars. I'll get the part # but untilthen don't use the unit - you don't want to fry the motor, I learned that the hard way.

"I believe the KDS56 is the portable version of the built-in KDS16."
That's what I think I'm finding out.

I have pulled off the sprayer, strainer cover, four screws and the top of a pump, the pump impeller and 4 screws on the bottom half of the pump assembly.
Does the bottom half of the pump just pop off? It is plastic and I don't want to break it.
I think I need part #4160551. I think I'm going after the seal that comes with that kit. What you you think?
Are there any tricks I'm missing?
Thanks

after removing topof pump

which is called the wash arm support you see the top impeller. you removed it too you said. underneath that is a plastic peice that has 4 screws holding it in. you removed those screws you said. this peice will lift out. underneath it is the bottom impeller and seal that you are replacing.

make sure no water is in pump that will leak down into motor when you remove bottom impeller and seal. i usually disconnect drain hose off pump and let all water out into a rag or cup so motor bearing area will stay dry.

you will also have an o ring between bottom and top impeller on shaft and several spacers that will go back in with new assembly.

that's a start at least.

Ok, I'm back.
I have the impeller and seal out of the dishwasher.
Does that kit come with the ceramic washer that the seal rides on? Mine is broke. Not sure if I did that, but I need one.
Does anyone have a part number for that washer?

Thanks
Rick

Awesome post.

I ordered a part from eBay. They sent the wrong part. I specifically purchased part number 4160551. I received 4171314. I just emailed the seller. I'm not sure if he really has the part I need.

There is a ceramic washer and a carbon/ rubber seal in the kit. The carbon seal looks attached to the new impeller. If I'm stuck with these parts I may attempt to use the seal parts on my machine. If I can get the seal off the impeller.
One issue would be that I wouldn't be replacing the rubber impeller.

Keep you all posted.
I'm stuck washing dishes. My wife keeps threating to buy a new machine.
