Hi, Glad to have found your site. I have a KitchenAid Superba Monterey21 kuds21mso. It worked great for years without issue, until a week ago. Now, the rinse light is constantly lit and the unit will not run. I did verify the door and handle switches are working. I also tried turning off the breaker in hopes of resetting it. What should my next step be to diagnose the issue?
Thank you, Charlie.

KDS 21 dishwasher not starting

Hi Charlie, at this point all you can do is open up the control panel and try advancing the timer and see what happens, on the surface. I'd say you have a bad timer. This timer has two motors on it one to advance the timer quickly for setting the cycles and the other motor advances the timer slowly Throughout a cycle. I suspect one of the timer motors won't advance out of the rinse only option.

It's also possible that there's a problem with the door switch. Does the rinse only light go off when you close the door and latch it?

Hi John

I just tried turning the timer with the small square hole in the front. That did turn off the rinse light. But it did not start any phase of the cycle, even after pressing in normal cycle button and cycling timer manually. If I returned the timer to approximately where it was, the rinse light came back on.

The rinse light was on with the door closed and latched.

Thank you.

Late to the party

Hi, i'm just seeing this....I have a question:  If you press the "Cancel/Drain" button does the machine go through that process and then shut off?   If so, are you able to re-start it by selecting "Normal/Full Cycle"?

If the cancel sequence does not work than it is your timer.  The cam in the timer has either gotten stuck in place, or has cracked/split and is stuck in a position where the circuits for the timer motor, rapid advance motor, and main motor are inactive.  Most likely this is at the point where the timer is at the Sanitize option.  If that was selected the timer will open those three circuits while the water is heating.  If the cam broke or froze at this point that would explain it.

In any case you still need a timer.  Luckily you shouldn't have too much trouble locating one (eBay usually has a few lurking around).   Let us know what this check resulted in.
