Kitty Carlisle Hart was passed away on Tuesday (4/17).

I feel sad about Kitty Carlisle Hart. She was the history of the game show "To Tell The Truth". She was 96 years old.

Class act

I understand she was a class act.
How wonderful it must have been to have such an exciting life and 96 years of it to boot.
It is an odd feeling to see a "personality" that transcended my grandparents, parents and my life passing away. It does make me feel a little old. However, seeing SALLY FIELD doing OSTEOPOROSIS commercials makes me feel ancient. Then again, so does the fact that TINA LOUISE is about 73 years old.

She was a true lady,

and she could be very funny. She had me cracking up more than once on "To Tell the Truth."

Her work in her later years with the New York State arts scene was impressive, as well.

From what I'd seen and read, Kitty was still kicking right up to the end, performing if I'm not mistaken somewhere in San Francisco and possibly with a traveling show as recently as a year ago. I saw a write up in this morning's paper but didn't have time to read it so will do that later today. This gal deserves some kind of tribute but I'll bet the recognition doesn't go much further than the New York City sphere of influence. Sadly, most people in TV news these days have never heard of her and probably gave very detached readings of the copy they were provided regarding her passing.

Like most boomers, my main memory of her is from the Bud Collier days of "To Tell the Truth" and she always stood out with her votes in Roman numerals I, II, or III. Ah, those old days of sophisticated glamour gals on panel shows!

Not to mention she probably had one of the greatest names in show biz history!

Had a chance to read the article in the paper. She stated that she preferred TV as a medium because it brought her right into people's living rooms. She said "nobody" remembers her in the Marx Bros' "A Night at the Opera" even though she had a major role, but everybody remembers her from "To Tell the Truth" and she had no problem with that.

Too bad it was pneumonia that got her. I had pneumonia back in February and didn't even know it. If hers had been caught earlier we might still have had her with us for a little longer, but at 96 she had a great run.

Oh how sad. I remember her also from To Tell The Truth and as a fill in on the game show 'What's My Line' when Dorothy Kilgallen
died. Kitty was such a lady and class act on that show and others
I saw this show on reruns.

Speaking of old game shows, my favorite was "What's My Line" with another class act panelist Arlene Francis. Like Kitty, she was in a class by herself.
I wonder what Dorothy Kilgallen really died from. She was a journalist and at the time of her death she was working on a story of JFK's death. Mmmm.

Dorothy Kilgallen's biography

I am currently reading Dorothy Kilgallen's biography. She was a very interesting gal.
Her death scene (in bed with ALL of her makeup on - eyelashes too I think) did seem a bit artificial.
...Or maybe she was just... efficient. INSTA-WAKE. Throw open the bedroom doors, set up a kneeler and flowers and get the show on the road.

Kitty Carlisle Hart

That lady had more get-up-and-go at 95 than people half their age...and you never heard a whisper of scandal around her!

Funny that most people remember her more for all those game shows than anything else, but there was so much more to her than the small screen ever showed...

Alone

If any of you haven't seen it, rent "A Night at the Opera". Kitty's rendition of "Alone" with Alan Jones is, in my opinion, one of the best musical numbers in MGM history. Thank you for this posting, Kitty Carlisle was definitely, a class act. May she rest in peace.
