I heard on the radio this morning that Kleenmaid had gone into receivership.
Kleenmaid is an Australian company, based in Queensland, which imports a range of washing machines, dryers, vacuum cleaners, dishwashers, fridges/freezers and stoves/ovens/rangehoods.
Their top loader washers and matching dryers are sourced from Speed Queen USA; their front load washers are either the big Speed Queen US machines or smaller FLs and smaller dryers are from Gorenje. Most kitchen appliances are sourced from Brandt in Europe, and their large refrigerators are from GE in the USA. I'm not sure who makes their vacuuum cleaners.
They have always aimed at a premium price, quality focused market.
They are an integrated importer/retailer, with only 20 stores around the country. (plus I believe some independent agents in smaller country towns.) The Geelong store, the nearest to me, has recently closed down. I don't know when, I only noticed last week it was closed.
"Receivership" in Australia is like entering into bankruptcy protection in USA - the company has debts it can no longer service, probably due to declining sales, so an external administrator has been appointed to administer the business, and analyze whether the business can restructure and survive, or whether it will be closed down.
