Lady Kenmore dryer help

Hey guys, I have a Lady Kenmore dryer model 110.86692820. It was drying some shirts and had moved to the "wrinkle guard" part of the cycle. I was talking on the phone, so I moved the timer to air and was going to let the shirts just tumble. There was no tumble. The dryer will not go. You can "feel" (not hear) a hum in the control panel when you push the start button. No tumbling. <P> I have checked the belt and the thermal fuse. Both are ok. Any ideas on what it might be? Thanks for any help/suggestions ahead of time. I really hate to call the 1-800 number for Sears repair. <p> Tom

There is a thermal fuse next to the operating thermo (On the blower housing) that opens a circuit to the motor if it trips; assuming this is an electric dryer. Could also be a timer issue.Does this dryer have the lint screen inside the drum?

Yes this is an electric dryer. This model has the lint screen on the top panel near the control panel on the right side.

You said you checked the thermal fuse (white with 2 wires attached) next to the operating thermo on the blower housing. There is also a thermal cutout mounted to the upper portion of the heater box (right side with back panel of dryer off). That controls heat only.

Could be a door switch or timer as well.

I cannot figure out what is wrong. My dad reminded me of the guy that fixed my hot water heater some years back. He fixed my Aunts stove a couple of weeks ago. I'll post back what he finds. <p> Tom

Well.....

Never got a call back from dad's guy. The receptionist had told me when I called that usually he just did heating and air. I looked up a couple of appliance repair people in the phone book today. I tried one of them, no answer. I hate dealing with things like this. I did find out Sears minimum charge to come and look was $65. <p> I would be more willing to dig further into this myself - but since I am just coming out of back surgery it was a chore to get the thing scooted out and take the back off. I decided it was best to quit wrestling with it and just have someone that can get on the floor take care of it. <p> I'll be drying clothes at the laundromat this weekend. That is not a big deal though. <p> I am sure it would become a big deal, if I have to do it very often. <p> Thanks for asking....I'll update again when I know something.

Do you get heat, with no tumble? This happened with my Kenmore and it was the motor that finally seized up when all belts and heat were fine. You could probably get a new motor for about 50 to 100 bucks, they are challenging to replace from the stantpoint of the cabinet and drum assembly and rear fan which usually siezes to the shaft. If you get a new motor, get a new fan for the back as you will probably have to crack the old one off the dead motor to get it out.

Dryer update

I got a phone number from someone at work who has all their appliances worked on by Ken. I called Ken and he could be here in 30 minutes ! WOW! <p> Insert rushing around like Samantha under a spell cleaning the house as fast as possible! I had originally thought that I would have the holiday weekend to pick up before he came next week! HA!
<p> He checked it all out and it is the timer. I can get a new one for $77 The house call was $55 and he said he would charge another $20 - $25 to come back out to put it on. I said - Done Deal ! <p> I had looked up timers online for this model and they were $85 at Sears parts.com. So I figured the $77 was reasonable, installation for $20 - $25 was great and I could save myself the headache of installing it myself!!! He said, depending on how the holiday affected delivery, It could be here Monday - no later than Tuesday or Wednesday! <p> So one weekend of drying at the laundromat. <p> I do not think I have ever been so happy about spending $150 on a repair. <p> Tom, who is having a Happy Thanksgiving Eve so far! <p>Thanks John and Philip for the suggestions and help - I appreciate it.
