Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Another unused, vintage dishwasher

It’s neat how many vintage dishwashers turn up, because there’s still a significant number of people who just don’t use a dishwasher.

Dishwashers that would’ve never lasted a decade of normal household. Use show up in nearly perfect condition 40-50 years later.

unused dishwashers

Yes, John, it is always great fun to find an unused, or nearly unused appliance. However, this isn't one of them.

In this particular case, the dishwasher definitely has been used. If you blow up the picture of the lower rack, you will see, sadly, it is quite afflicted with rust. Both with outright rust showing, and with bubbles under the vinyl that will soon break through. There are also a couple of tines missing because of rust through.

The seller indicated they have used this dishwasher since owning the home. They did not state the time period...it could have been a month or it could have been five years, etc. who knows. That rust looks pretty well established, so it was likely used by the previous owners, as well.

My family's D&M made "Modern Maid," of the same era, developed tub rust after only a little over five years of daily use, and actually developed a hole in the bottom of the tub. The lower rack developed a little a touch of rust, but nothing as bad as in this picture.

Too bad, otherwise this is a clean machine. [this post was last edited: 9/21/2023-12:31]

I like seeing all those lights on on it including the two bulbs over the pushbutton cycle selectors--something I haven't seen lit up like that in decades, maybe only once in my lifetime...

I made a chest with a drawer and space under it into a toy dishwasher mimicking the controls I must have drawn on a sheet of paper sitting across from it, then taping it on and the one drawer was where all the toy dishes and stuff like the silverware and utensils went...
