LAID OFF!!

I got laid off from my job today. I am a bartender at the Yelm Moose Lodge in Yelm, WA. We are in bad shape, but, I think something funny is going on. Our governor of the lodge doesn't even have keys to the office. The treasurer is not being allowed to see the books! What the hell is up with that! They are only keeping one bartender, but even though she has been there five years longer than I have, she has caused a bunch of trouble. She takes so many pain killers at work that she falls asleep. She is constantly out smoking and has a line up at the bar. She won't cook. I've busted my ass for this place, and this is the thanks I get? It goes to show you, hard work does not pay off! I should start taking pills on my shift and go tell the board of officers to f**k off like she does. Maybe that is the secret to keeping your job.

I'm sorry to not only read about loosing your Bartender Job, but the way that they are treating you as you mentioned about how much you've done and even extra work. It is also a shame and my wondering why they would keep someone who has to live on Pain Pills, Falling Asleep and Cursing Higher-Ups there. As you mentioned it sounds like something funny inside going on, what gives.

I hope that you won't have to be out of work for too long and hopefully will be able to get another Bartender Job, or whatever other Job you will be looking into now.

We have an organization here in Houston that I have ben loyal to for nearly 20 years - They have pretty much kicked me to the curb so they can save a few dollars .

we have a person like this at my job...worst employee ever...should be fired...and yet no matter all the complaints from customers and employees...she can't be touched...and her write up seems to disappear...she had "relations" with our last boss....and now a new one and the same thing...the only one getting "screwed" is us...mind you I'm second in command and this girl overides me!

No, you are not the only one getting screwed. You are the ones getting screwed and not liking it or benefiting from it.

Sorry to hear of the job loss. That stinks. I took my last lay-off as an opportunity to get a second college decree/degree and change careers, all while collecting unemployment. Yes, financially I am still paying for it, but it is a sense of accomplishemnt, nevertheless.

Recession proof?

It doesn't sound like the recession is the reason. I've been laid off from a job that I loved before. I wanted to scream out that if the place had money troubles that it wasn't because of me. The one who laid me off later was fired for embezzlement. I knew it all along, but wasn't really sure who to tell. Didn't think to do it at the time.

Don't worry. A competent and friendly bartender can always find work. You'll probably have a new job before the end of this week. If it's something you're enjoying, just look around.

Now, take the opportunity and find a place that values you.

I think we all know of people like this young lady, and frequently they are guys - I worked at a hotel in Durango many many years ago where the manager was banging the head desk-clerk...who was straight but cute and willing to be the bangee in order to get ahead.

As he put it, "women have done it forever, why shouldn't we?"

So don't be bitter, just get ahead. That's the best revenge.

Oh, and make sure your documents are all straight (unemployment, FICA, etc. Sounds like they are in trouble in more ways than one).

Many states have "empolyment at will" and you will have no recourse.

Be careful what your pursue; oftentimes it is a waste of time and money. Today the outcomes of many court cases are available on the web via a simple Google search. Your next (potential) employer may not be so thrilled to see you have filed a lawsuit.

When men get that awful incurable disease called "Blinded By The Bush" there is no point doing anything; you will lose.

You put up with enough S- - -. Now allow the universe to give you what you have earned and deserve--something much better.

Exactly, Toggles! You now have an opprotunity to do what you love. If it's bartending, do it for someone who appreciates your hard work. Don't go after an employer to get a job back that you hated anyway.

At-will employment is common in Washington.

Unfortunately, it also can have (I've been told) a unemployment insurance system that can be difficult to work with. I know someone who was fired by a charity that operates in Tacoma, and she had a real battle, particularly since the charity tried to block the claim. (It apparently costs them to have a claim approved.) They couldn't back up their claims, so eventually the unemployment insurance was approved. It took longer than it should have, frankly.

Sorry to hear of your lay off. I gave a company almost 10 years of loyal service, then just a few months before my 10 year anniversary I was laid off. I hope something better comes along for you real soon.
