As a kid I spent a lot of time in Kenosha, Wisconsin where my grandmother and relatives lived. I can remember going to a huge store by the name of (probably going to misspell this) Jordenea and Ventura. Most of the entire basement was filled with washing machines. Grandma bought her new 1958 Zenith t.v there as well as her Hoover Constellation eighty-six,which I still use. Rows and rows of automatics and wringers. I thought I had died and gone to washing machine heaven! Most all of my family in Kenosha are dead, but I wonder if the store is still in business? Gary

I'm from Kenosha and last lived there in '93. I'm in my early mid-40's and have never heard of that store. Must have been before my time.

In St. Cloud, Minnesota, we have a local Maytag Shop; it's still there and partially owned by the same family ... M & H Appliances. The entire showroom was dedicated to automatics, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, wringer washers.
They still have many pictures hanging in their showroom of how it looked in the 1950's/1960's; very fun to look at!!
My parents purchased their appliances there in the 1950's and today, my appliances (except for my collectibles!) have come from there.
We were just talking here at work about how great it is to have a local appliance dealer still around like that; even though, they now carry a wide variety of brands. You still walk in to a showroom and while you may pay a bit more, it's worth it! Their service is great!!

it's Joerndt & Ventura. they had a store downtown, but they have a current appliance business listed at 3010 Roosevelt rd. i think that used to be a speed queen laundromat.

Thanks Pumper, It was the downtown store that I was talking about. I remember an appliance store on Rossevelt Rd. by the name of Triangle Appliance. I wonder if that is still there? Thanks, Gary

It would be worth the time to inquire of anyone you can get to about "oldtimers" who used to do appliance sales or repair for these stores. Also there may be a retired elderly owner who has an obscure warehouse full of treasure somewhere. Since that is Kelvy/SQ country----and old warehouse could indeed be a treasure trove!
