This is such a neat find... probably most "used" water heaters are already on their next life as a Kia (or several)... It is fun to see an original still intact. I wonder if Frigidaire had the monel tank that some of this vintage water heaters had, that would make it even a better find!

Frigidaire offered the monel tank as an option in addition to a standard galvanized tank.  I would be willing to be that this one has the monel tank since it's still in use.  I can't imagine a galvanized tank lasting this long!

This was when...

Water heaters were made of real metal...THICK and HEAVY, not those old thin things you can carry that are sold today...I bet you that thing will weigh 250 pounds or more!!

I did a little "research" and this looks like it's a 1946 or 47 600 series heater.  It's hard to say how large it is for certain, but looks as if it could be the 80 gallon model.  The shipping weight on the 80 gallon model is listed at a whopping 492 lbs.!!!

Growing up we had a 1940s Hotpoint 80-gallon, stone lined hot water tank. When it finally came time to replace it due to leaks, which wasn't until the 1980s, they had to use a winch to get it out. I doubt the replacement water heater got another 40 years of use, though!
