Oh Frig let me tell you

I don't know which is more exciting.....facing another PA winter with modern, high efficiency HVAC and a boss storm door or the day you announced you were eschewing PODS.

:)

At any rate, I think when you can do a lot of little things, it can add up to energy savings. I can't do much more than what the builder already did, but the storm door was a no brainer. As were the outlet insulators. The Simonton windows are contractor grade but they have a 3.85 R factor. Running the Electrowarmth mattress pad means I can keep the t-stat at a frosty 66 at night. Turning it down while I am at work saves also.

I certainly am excited.

The only thing I would think about with an outward opening door at ground level (or even on a raised porch like mine is) is having the door blocked from being opened by deep snow if a big storm hits. I have had to progressively dig out after opening the door a couple of inches then sliding the shovel out, turning it and pushing snow out of the way then repeating until the door could open far enough for me to squeeze out to finish the job.

I have one with a full-height window, added to my front door for protection against moisture exposure.  It weathered badly, needed refinishing after 6-ish years.  A side-effect that didn't come to mind until after installing is that the door faces the west late afternoon/evening sun and a lot of solar heat collects behind the glass, bakes the wooden front door.
