My helper and I pulled a 1990 Maytag stack out from a home on Capitol Hill. Something locked up and it would not spin anymore. I’m not sure it could even have something in between the tubs. It didn’t show any sign of leaking through the top bearing over the transmission, but the dampers were starting to go, and she said the electronics were wonky every once in a while, it just wouldn’t work. She was ready for a new washer.
I told her I’d get her prices on machines that would fit in the tight space these Maytag were in and she said don’t even bother with prices. It doesn’t matter what it cost and she really wanted to front loader this time.
We put in a stack pair of 24 inch GE compact front loaders which of course they’re much bigger in capacity than either the washer or the dryer that she had, she was very pleased with the way they fit in there. She handed me $200 as a tip after we got the machines installed, which was very nice.
Not sure what we’ll do with the stack pair. Jason might want to restore it. We already have one in the museum if somebody really wants one of these it’s in real good condition, but it needs some work
When I went to the appliance distributor to pick up the GE’s on the back of the scrap trailer was a DE 90 I grabbed it because it probably had some good parts in it. It was obviously kept going for a long time by a do it yourself or, I don’t think I’m gonna keep it if someone really wants it. Get in touch with me otherwise it’ll get parted out and scrapped.
