Late 50's Hamilton gas dryer

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Yes it is!

Pity it's not working; it's glorious and it's near me. I guess designers in this period were focusing on automobile dashboards and flourishes more than house design. I'm so sick of the current fashion of household appliances that screeches "Blend In" at the cost of imagination, ergonomics and common sense. I want to see what I'm working with.

Again, I can only imagine what the matching washer would have looked like. I guess the moral of the story is that machines that don't deal with water intake and drainage have fewer parts to wear out, oxidize and fail. I wonder if there's anything in the Library about Hamilton products of this vintage...

Thanks for posting this.

Honey Hamilton

That is similar to the Hamilton I have which is electric(rare)I would venture to say that is newer than 1950s as it is the same overall style as mine which is 1961.I could be rong but when it comes to these matters, rarely. If that dryer didnt work I am sure it could be repaired. That would be an outstanding addition to any collection those put on quite a show, remember them well from my childhood all my neighbors had them.

Nice-looking machine!

I hope someone will get it. It certainly deserves to be restored!

I can't tell about the "Heat Miser" but the "Lint Minder" looks like a vacuum gauge.

Hamilton Gas Dryer

Cool Dryer, yes it is real late 50s but most likely early 1960s. The heat miser light comes on whenever the burner cycles off.

Yes this dryer could likely be restored, hopefully it does not have a constant burning pilot light, most Hamilton's did and it tended to destroy many parts of the dryers control panel and rust out the bottom of the dryers top.

The matching washer to this would have been a solid tub Norge built machine, even if the dryer was only used till 1981 the matching washer would have been LONG gone for at LEAST a decade.

Looks like it didn't sell; it's been relisted. It almost makes me wish we had a gas line! I love the control panel!

I have had a Hamilton gas dryer before. I had problems with keeping the pilot burning and could not find a replacement thermocouple to work on it. The one I had was very similar to this one. I know that for many years Norge made the matching washers for Hamilton, but sometime in the 60's blackstone started making their washers for them.
