Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Their delay in the program cost them a sale to me---I had a house in Arlington Hts, IL with a laundry room in the garage--the Maytag I had out there finally gave up the ghost after one too many accidentally running it halfway frozen. The house was 3 br 1 ba with a crawl space, and the utility closet off the bathroom (marvelous location for it, actually--the louvered door provided great ventilation from toilet odors). Anyway, there was a long counter, then the sink, toilet and tub. It backed up to the kitchen, and there was likely juuuust enough space for the new FD set, but they were delayed when I was in the market for the new units, and there were none of the older design left, so I ended up getting a $250 Roper World Washer, figuring that the simplicity was probably safest with the likelihood of it freezing periodically. I considered a European set for a hot minute (Creda, as I recall) but was just a little esoteric for a tract house in Arlington Hts.

laundry room in the (unheated) garage in Chicagoland. No. That doesn't work.

It's supposed to get down to 3 degrees on Wed. and not come above 32 for at least a week after that.

Where did they go?

Does anyone know why Frigidaire stopped making front-load washers? They disappeared from their website a couple of years ago, with no explaination.

Here in NorCal this week, we’re basking in temps in the low 60s, albeit nighttime temps down to the high 30s. I have most of my collection in a separate unheated garage and only have issues with my Maytag 208 when it gets cold — takes a couple minutes to get up to normal agitation speed.

Frigidaire was bought by White Consolidated Industries from General Motors. WCI in turn got gobbled up by Electrolux.

Frigidaire's final incarnation of front loaders were highly rated by some consumers.

Electrolux (like Maytag) was hauled into court by American consumers complaining of mold in their front loaders. That may have contributed to decision by Electrolux to drop Frigidaire front loaders, and just make top loaders by that brand for US market.

Electrolux then would be free to concentrate on H-axis washers sold under that brand. Know they are sold in Canada, but not sure about USA, Electrolux also has AEG front loading washers. They just don't need three brands of H-axis washing machines on offer in North America.
