Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

Good and Bad...

Well, as long as he was not destroying the machine more power to him that he figured out a way to trick the coin system. Dishonest...Yes. But Clever.
And of all things...At least we know this person is clean. You have to admire a college student that might be short on cash but is desperate for clean clothes.

That is called theft of services.

Peace of mind for $4 per week (2 loads to wash and dry @ $1 each).

PRICELESS.

Have one fewer beer when out. VOILA; budget balanced.

I agree!

However, I recently discovered that spelling is no longer part of the curriculum in our local school districts! No wonder I'm always proof reading for younger co-workers. OY!

If we want

"young people" to be academically honest, shouldn't they be honest in all realms?

I had a job during the college years I lived on campus to provide for books and spending money......

He hacks a dorm washing machine and put his name all over it(not smart!!!)then puts it on Youtube???

Thieves because of boredom

Usually this is the typical behaviour of those "against the system" ones having both "revoluctionary" attitude AND dad-feeded credit card(s).

All the "against the system" stuff just is a mask on boredom.

Generally less (financially) healty students are more honest, cause they know the value of working, so they respect other people jobs

I can understand the temptation,

especially the rotten way students are treated by administrations (is there any other business in the world which one pays so much money to, in order to be treated so badly?).

But - and this is a big BUT - theft is theft and I really doubt that $1.00 even begins to cover the real costs of the laundromat.

Those machines cost a fortune to buy, service and run. Water must be heated to the proper temperature 24/7. This is not a good thing, not good at all.

I seen the one where they used Q-Tips to fool a coin operated Speed Queen washer, this is why many laundries around here are switching machines to use a credit card slot type mechanism, which you have to purchase and recharge, for now it stops stuff like this kind of theft, but give them time and they'll figure a way to hack these too!

But everyone is correct, theft is theft.....and one can feel better about clean clothes, but if your that down and out, try a little dish soap in a bath tub and put a little muscle into it, hell if you have to get a ROCK, it can be done!

Speaking of Spelling...

I had a Young Man working for me in the kitchen this summer. He started college this past August. I asked him to cut up 20 lbs. of potatoes, label and date them, and put them in the Walk-in. He spelled Potatoes = "Podadoes". I saw this and called him on it. I said "You're starting college in 3 weeks and you don't know how to spell Potatoes ? His reply : "Well, the Black Marker doesn't have spell check built in".
Later that day I asked one of my other guys that is a Senior in High School "How much is 5x10 ?" He asked me for a calculator.
Zheeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh !!! I guess this is the Norm. these days.

Yes...there are morons who are going to run this country eventually......one power failure and were screwed, who needs nuclear bombs...PULL THE PLUG!.....

am I wrong P O T A T O S...........no "E"....only cause I had a problem with this word in the 5th grade....

The singular is

"Potato,"

The plural is

"Potatoes."

Lawrence/Maytagbear.

The past tense of "saw" is "seen", as in "I have seen the future, and it is bleak."

Random House and Oxford

The two dictionaries which govern my profession both say:
potatoes

Hmm, didn't the Republicans have another dimwit like Palin, only even stupider back in the 1990's who couldn't even spell the singular properly?
Why yes, they did. Take a look at the youtube clip.
Anybody want to remind me again why the Republicans are the party we should trust to lead us through intelligence and competence?

Why, yes, it would be Quayle, Dan Quayle

Bill, you have to watch the video. It is beyond belief.

Of course, with George jr. running around the house, Bush#41 probably felt Quayle was a friggin' genius by comparison.

Sadly, he was right.

NYC Washer

We had a very unreliable machine in the basement of our first apartment in NYC and I used to do the laundry with 20 Lire coins. I used to use quarters, but it was a crap shoot if the machine would start at all. You call the number to report lost coins, never heard a word. I did this to even out my investment ;) Some of the reactions here are a little strong considering this is a just a college prank. don't overthink it, it is just a college prank. College used to put the polish on, now for many it is a last chance for kids who never learned anything in 12 years of school. We have some young MBAs in our office that are just clueless children.

A buck is cheap enough, but as much as College tuition is these days it's enough. I really do not know how people with 2 or 3 kids can make it. Sidebar the new acronym for the High School curriculum here is STEM,Science, technology, engineering and mathematics , seems kind of "far reaching" to me. not every kid is going to college.

yogitunes is right

I have had to put clothes in a bathtub and stomp on them. It's one of those things in life when when money is tight. It is not nice to steal. Luckily, that was a long time ago. My kids would probably never believe that I ever did that. Fifteen years from now my kids will call and ask "no money what do I do" I will say stomp your clothes in the bathtub, and stop spending money on ring tones.

Spelling

I think part of the problem with spelling is that many people never learned how to type properly. They still use a one or two finger approach, which is not conducive to correct spelling or punctuation.

I remember being rather shocked when I started working in the corporate world in IT in Silicon Valley in the 90's. Most the younger people there couldn't spell in an email if their lives depended on it. Even one of my supervisors regularly sent out mis-spelled memos, and I gently advised him to use the spell check in Word next time.

One of the most useful classes I ever took in high school was a typing class. I took it because I wanted to write, and now I can type much faster than I can write by hand. Some would argue that I type faster than I can think, but that's their problem ... lol ...

I took two and a half years of typing class(beta, pica, and elite). I got up to 65/0. I also took one year of Microsoft DOS system(it does a lot of good now, Ha Ha!!!) If I had misspelled words it was a big problem.

I actually tried the same on Maytag front load washers and dryers, which belonged to a dorm in Greater London. Not because I didn't have the money, but because they were absolutely and completely f'ed up with gunk! Now, I know that all these other careless students, who just throw detergent all over the dispenser and thus clogging everything up, are to blame BUT no one from the staff felt at all responsible to clean the machines. Nothing was ever done! This is why I eventually tried to get my laundry done for free - after all, I didn't feel like paying three Pound to have my underwear etc. infused with bacteria!

This was on my girlfriend’s semester abroad. On my semester abroad, I went to the Uni of Wolverhampton (also UK) and was luckier. The Speed Queen front loaders were equally disgusting but luckily, the drawers could be removed and cleaned in the laundry room's sink. And using the appliances was free. :)
