Laundry Room News: "Temper, Temper" & The SQ Moves On

And here you thought the latest dryer technology involved heat pumps. No, no, no. The cinder block is currently all the rage in my laundry room!

I'm providing foster care for two cats, one of whom became tangled underfoot as I was loading the dryer a couple of days ago. A poorly-executed evasive move left me with a strained ankle and a twisted knee (my bad one, of course). In a moment of seeing-red pain, I slammed the dryer door with the might of Thor, leaving the receiver broken and the door slightly bent. Why I thought that was going to help is beyond me.  At any rate, the cinder block is providing aid 'til the repairs can be made.

 

In other news:  The Speed Queen AWN542 is moving on!  A good friend, who is going through a very rough time financially and has 2 kids, found oil seeping out from under his 15-year old (brand unknown) top-loader.  Speed Queen to the rescue!  I rarely use it and am downsizing; they really need a washer.

I'm sorry you got hurt, especially with the bad knee.  Glad the SQ could go to a needy home.  Front loaders rule and outclean the toughest laundry anyway.  Long live Sanitize cycles!!!

Maybe...

A new dryer could take the SQs place? Maybe the cinder block counter part?
But anyway, hope your knee gets better again soon...

I know you say you are downsizing....but that empty spot will haunt you. I have a feeling that something new will be there for you to share with us soon.

Reminds me of how we used to duct-tape the door of our first dryer shut. And you breaking the door of your dryer totally reminds me of all the thing I broke in a rush of red-seeing pain because I ran against them, into them, bumped my head on them...

 

Downsizing you say? You wanna keep it small? Compact? Almost invisibly small? Okay...

Bob---I'm right with you in your appraisal of modern front-loaders! The SQ was fun, but when it came down to which machine was going to a new home, there was no question. My friends will have a reliable, relatively easy to service workhorse for years to come.

Henene4- It would be nice to have two dryers...but no. The Frigidaire will stand alone.

Rich-- I honestly think I'm done with extra appliances for the first time in my life. I will admit that a snazzy Maytag pair in the appliance store window has been winking at me...but I can't justify spending $3,000 for a new set. This 'fiscally responsible' thing is so new to me, LOL!

Alex-- You know me too well. Everyone I've steered toward LG really likes their washers...but they're too big to fit through the doorway to my laundry room. That's why Maytag seems the logical choice for my next pair. The new models have a 4.5 cu. ft. tub, but a footprint that fits through all the doorways of the house. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a mini washer, as does the LG.

Would the new TOL WP TL work? It's only half an inch wider than the 4.5 Maytag...

Don't worry, the new LGs will come in 5.6, 5.2 and 4.5 cu.ft capacity. 

The 4.5 model should fit through your doors so you can go ahead any buy it.

Maybe you can find an old belt drive Whirlpool/Kenmore to play with or something else vintage. Keep your eyes of Craig's List. Hate to see those hookups go to waste! ;-)
