Leaking Miele 5964 door gasket

I have a Miele 5964 washer which is now over 5 years old.The rubber seal around the porthole is leaking slightly on the high level washes. Although the machine has a 10 year guarantee, I'm not sure this would be covered. I rang Miele, and they quoted approx. £160 to supply and fit a new one. Having looked on ebay, just to buy they are £80, so in that respect, not bad.
However, talking to a friend tonight who also has a Miele, he said that he was told if you rub the hard bits of the rubber on the gasket with wire wool to soften, the rubber repairs itself and seals up..Has anybody else tried,/ heard this before?

Is it leaking because of a chunk is missing from the edge or because there is a hole at 9 and or 3 o'clock positions of the inner folds?

A bicycle inner-tube patch and high temp silicone sealant has worked for me.

I've seen holes appear at 9/3 positions on older machines as the shocks wore.

When my w3933 started dripping, it was scale that had built up on the glass. I used some clr to clean it off and the drip stopped.

Is the glass smooth if you run your finger nail around the glass where it contacts the boot?

But five years or normal household use should not cause the door boot on a Miele washer to wear/begin leaking. What are you putting in this machine?

Had the boot on my older Miele replaced when got it many years ago now, but that was mostly because figured better to get things over with during install. It turned out to be a good then one ordered a new boot as the one inside machine (as one had feared) was covered in slime/mold along the interior, Oh and it had a hole in the folds as well, but both tech and I agreed that came from previous owner stinting on checking pockets.

Would heed previous suggestions and first see if something is preventing the door boot from making a tight seal.

If worse comes to the worse replacing a Miele door boot is not *that* difficult. Door swings out, there is a clip that hold boot in place IIRC, old boot removed and new fitted on, clip replaced and voilà. Only possible fly in ointment is it can take a bit of effort to stretch the boot over tub opening. Tech had to pull rather forcefully (swearing the entire time), to get ours to fit.

I think you need to find out where exactly the leakage is coming from. Is it the doorboot? And if so where exactly. Some Mieles leak from the dispenser when the drawer is not closed properly or when, due to hard water, a spray is pointed towards the front. It can look as it's coming from the doorboot. Just check that when it's filling. When you have hard water, you can also see a small trace left behind on the front of the washing machine.

IIRC Miele on certain Miele models you can turn the doorboot around in case the leak has been caused by a sharp object or so. If it's only a tear and not wear, that may be a cheap solution.

Thank you for your replies...I have got hard water and scale on the glass, I sprayed with Viakal and rubbed with wire wool. also, I checked the seal for holes, but couldn't see any.
A high level rinse started, and as soon as the water went above the door, it started leaking! I am going to bite the bullet and get Miele in. Thank you anyway

As Launderess said, it's not that difficult to swap out a boot.  I changed mine when I first acquired it also, took only about 45 minutes and barely broke a sweat!
