Ok here is a new one on me. I have a 2000 Amana Distriction side by side 26 c.f. refig. It has the indoor ice and water service. It has started to release water out of the water spout when the ice maker is filling??? At first I was blaming my wife for not putting her cup under the spout correctly, cause the tray was overflowing and running down the door onto the floor. I apoligized greatly after standing there when the ice maker was running and I saw the water shooting out of the tube. So people any idea what the problem is or how to attack it? I tried to get the flush mount panel that surrounds it off but broke one of the plastic clips so I have not proceeded any further. Can someone give me a clue?
Thanks Jon

Ok after much searching I finally found the #'s. Who would have thought that they put this info on the ceiling of the refig.
Model # DRS2662AC
Serial # 0011215371
Thanks I really appreciate the help and info.

Ok after searching volvoguy87's link, I think I diagnosed the problem. Thank you so much for the link. There are two solinoid water valves on the back lower portion of the refig.
1 goes to the ice maker and 1 goes to the water dispenser. I guess one of these have gone bad or weak so when the ice maker calls for water the other valve lets water by also. I called Amana/Maytag and they have never heard of this problem, but stated it is that valve assembly that is causing the problem. I checked with my local repair guy who works on anything and he thought that this was the problem. He is going to check for part and price and going to get back to me tomorrow. I checked online and the part is like $39.00 plus shipping, so the repair shouldn't be that expensive. I would do this myself except it is in a cramped area and I would have to be on my knees. Well after 4 knee operations that won't be happening. So will wait for him to call back tomorrow. Boy was I suprised when I took the panel off, with 3 dogs you can imagine. I guess it was time so I took the back panel off and vaccuumed off all the coils compressor etc. Sounds completely different now with the air circulating like its supposed to.
Thanks to all for your imput.

O.K. An idea is...

Your refrig has a built in water filter for the ice and water. On either side of this filter is a water valve assy, each having two solenoids so the filter can be changed without having to turn off the water supply. These valves are on the back of the refrig where the water supply line connects to the unit. One solenoid on each valve opens for your water dispenser and the other solenoids open for the ice maker when it loads water. The reason is amount of water flow. It is possible that the post-filter valve which sends water to the dispenser or the ice maker may have a stuck dispenser coil. It could be stuck open allowing water flow to the dispenser while the i/m cycles... I doubt the dispenser comtrol board could be at fault because the Ice Maker draws water WITHOUT the dispenser control. It's independent.

Part Numbers:
PreFilter Valve Assy 12544001
PostFilter Valve Assy 12544101

Good Luck!

RedCarpetDrew Thanks so much for the explanation. I have given this a lot of thought on how this system works. I think that maybe the problem does not lie in these solonoid valves but in the simple switch in the water dispenser in the door. I checked my i/m and it is not overflowing. Ice cubes are normal size and the water is not going into the ice storage area. So this leads me to the valve in the door? It doesn't leak unless you use the water or the i/c comes on. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks again.

I still think...

The fact that your I/M doesn't overfill shows that the I/M SIDE of the post filter valve works fine. Remember, the dispenser board does not have anything to do with I/M operation. You could rip the dispenser out of the machine and the I/M will still fill and harvest. Both pre and post valves work in tandem. When the Ice maker loads, both valves open to let the appropriate water flow to the I/M and since the diaphram that controls water to the dispenser on the POST filter valve may be stuck, water comes out the dispenser at the same time. When the dispenser is called upon to fill your glass with water, the valves open the other set of diaphrams and water flows. Again, if your post filter valve is bad, when you stop filling the glass, the pre filter valve turns off and the incoming water stops but with the post filter valve possibly stuck open on the dispenser side, water would still trickle out as the pressure built up in the filter releases and eventually stop flowing... A quick and dirty way of proving or disproving this is to remove the upper hinge cover on the freezer door and disconnect the wiring umbilical which effectively removes the dispenser from the equasion. When the I/M next loads with water and the water still comes out the dispenser, it's most likely the valve. If the I/M loads and there is no leakage from the dispenser then you may have an issue with the dispenser...

As a side note, to pull the dispenser housing, most units of that type have two 1/4" screws that can be seen after pulling the drip catcher tray from the dispenser. then, the whole face drops down slightly to disengage the hooks.

RCD that certainly makes sense. Once the ice maker is complete the remaining pressure comes out of the water outlet. At that point there is no pressure left in the system. Well the repairman is coming this afternoon hopefully in the next hour or so. He thinks it is one of the solonoid vales also. He also suspects that possibly there is an exposed wire someplace that maybe is grounding out the system. He is going to check this all out when he comes. Will let you know what he finds and replaces. Thanks again for the info. I just love you guys.

Did we have a bet going???

I await with baited breath. I'm Amana authorized (among many other brands) and have hit this problem in a Maytag branded Amana or two. Usually in areas with hard water or wells...

Well he came yesterday but had the wrong valve assembly. I guess there are two different ones. The one he had with him had the larger size output where mine has the smaller. He ordered the part and is coming Sat morning to install. Will let you know tomorrow how it comes out.
Jon

Ok he just left and all if well again. He replaced a two solonoid valve assembly. It wasn't the one near the back of the refig where the water comes in but the one located underneath about halfway back into the refrig. Changed that out and everything is dry again. What I did notice is that we now have the same volume of water coming out of the dispenser when getting a glass of water. I had not realized how much it has deminished over the past two weeks. It was the valve to the water dispenser that was partially stuck open. I blew into it and the air would pass through that valve and not the other.
Thanks rcd for all you info,
Jon

Sorry to take so long to get back but been busy with the nice weather raking and doing yardwork plus working. Well lets see I cooked a nice beef tenderloin on the rotissary along with cheese potatoes and green beans and salad. I made a blueberry cake and her favorite date oatmeal cookies. I have applogized many times to her and infront of friends. She is a good girl and takes my rants and goes on with life. Again thanks RCD for all your info and help. You certainly know your business.
