Special Recipe

Cooked, and I repeat COOKED potatoes, celery, onions, peppers and carrots are used as the base yeast and warm V-8 juice is added to. A bit of honey, some salt and enough flour to make a smooth soft is the crux of the recipe.

pumpkins

"Australian blue" pumpkin: in Australia it is called "Queensland Blue". (Queensland is the State in the North East). The skin is grey with a slight blue tinge. They tend to grow quite large, good for baked pumpkin. They are the "basic" pumpkin over here (Jarrahdale too) you'd find in any supermarket, Butternut and Jap (Jap is also called Kent) are the other two common varieties. I like Jap best for flavour though it is easy to overcook - goes too soft.

Over here pumpkin is very much considered a savoury food, almost never sweet - sweet "pumpkin Pie" is considered a very "American" dish, one of those strange things Americans do to food...Pumpkin soup is popular, otherwise steamed, mashed, roasted is common, I make a pumpkin curry from time to time.

Your menu sounds delish, Kelly!

Best Wishes

Chris.
